Hi guys. There was some time I was after a Maverick but here in NJ there are no vehicles available and it seems there won't be for some time.

It happens I needed a (second) car out of the blue because my wife found another job which is further from home, which lead us to purchase another car.

So that was my clue to have my Maverick.

Drove one hour to PA to find a black XL Ecoboost FWD - which was everything they had - and I bought it. (eve though I had to pay an extra for it)

Now after driving and feeling it - I say I really enjoy driving the car it but I feel terrible bad about buying a trim-version so basic - kinda ashamed.

I look at that truck and think If I should try buying new wheels or something else to make it look nicer but I'm not sure about putting money on top of a XL.

What do you guys think?

Congrats on the purchase. I've been to that dealer before. I can understand questioning the purchase and I have thought mine over a lot. In the end, I found that what I mostly wanted was in the XL platform. The few things that were extra on the XLT caused me to not like the interior etc. I could customize it to my needs/ wants. Happy to see we have a few NJ peeps on here. Maye I'll run into you on my resturant depot runs.

I bought the cheapest trim possible on my first car and the regret was immense for the whole time I owned it. Just $1500 more when I bought it would have given me an upgraded engine, better seats (the seats were back breaking on longer drives) and bluetooth and it looked a lot better on the outside. Now that I have money I basically just buy the highest trim and every option of every car I buy that I would ever want. If I can't afford that I will wait or buy another car. I never regret spending a bit more money on a car but I did regret not spending enough.

No one needs to be impressed. Drive it, enjoy it and be thankful for it. I drove so many years without power steering, power brakes,or air conditioning, then a bunch of years before power locks or windows and never heard of backup cameras. Man, this XL is loaded compared to years ago.

Yeah, I would rather keep driving my 2011 Expedition than have to drive an XL. You're much more brave than I am. I would be too embarrassed to come on this forum and admit I had an XL. Every time I drove it I would be worried that someone I knew would see me driving it. If they asked me if it was mine, I'd probably lie and tell them I'm borrowing it, and convince them by making an insulting joke about the poor sap that actually owned it.
🤣 I love well written satire. Do you also write for the Onion? Good one!

This is silly, I love the XL and think it's such a smart purchase. Even with the upgrades I made (Wheels, tires, OEM cruise control with Leather steering wheel, OEM remote/power locking tailgate) I still saved over $2,000 over an XLT and used some of the money saved to buy a really nice tonneau cover. If you're really that bothered by the wheels, grab a set of takeoffs from a Bronco Sport or even a Maverick XLT and it will make a world of difference. I found some Bronco Sport 18" wheels and tires for $300, someone had the dealer replace them with huge AT tires and nice wheels when they bought it and just wanted them out of his garage.

Also, keep in mind that for very little money you can add OEM cruise control and an OEM power locking tailgate and then there's not much differentiating your XL from an XLT and you've still saved a ton of money.
Exactly! I did the same upgrades, cruise, power locking tailgate, spray in Bedliner, bed tie downs, and aftermarket wheels & I’m done. There are some really smart guys here talking about how to add F-150 fog lights, so I’m watching that thread too but yeah, what this guy said.

Ordered an KL myself and had big plans for upgrading it with wheel covers, liners, toneau covers,, cruise, heated seat covers, speakers etc. Then after an 11 month wait, I fell into a Lariat LUX. It is great but almost miss doing all the upgrades to individualize it. :)

Excuse me if this point has been already raised, but some folks would give their right nut for an XL! (or their right breast as the case may be).

No reason to be ashamed. You can always upgrade the appearance with all the accessories that are now coming out.

When I ordered my XL there were some options that I would have liked to have. However, they are only available in packages that have me pay for scuff that I have no interest in having.
Two options would have been Sirius radio and electric mirrors. If I could have bought the ala carte I would have.

I never buy the cheapest trim because as you state many comfort, safety or technology useful features are missing or lacking.

I also avoid the highest trim (or luxury packages) because a lot of the features are overpriced or not needed or plainly unwanted (leather seats). Even though I liked the "Push Button Start" on my previous 2015 Honda Fit Ex it was not worth the thousands in costs because it was only available in the Lariat trim.

The above is why the XLT version of the Maverick is Ford's best seller and the right trim for me.

I keep my vehicles from cradle (brand new) to the grave so I do not want a vehicle that I hate to drive that I will own for over the 16 or more years. I owned a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT for 16 years + 4 months.

I examine the cost of a potential worthwhile option and divide by 16 to get a yearly price and use that number to determine if it is worthy of adding to the order.

That is why I have added the Co-Pilot 360 ($650, $54 per year), the Inside 400W Inverter ($150, $9.38 per year) and the hitch ($100, $6.25 per year).

The XLT Luxury package was not needed because I already had the 400W Inverter, Full Size Spare Tire (because I ordered a Hybrid) and trailer hitch on my order. The other items included in the XLT Luxury package were unneeded as I live in Texas.
