Hello, I’m looking to buy a Maverick and am wondering if there is any general consensus on must have options versus those that are overpriced. I am thinking of buying the hybrid model with the XLT trim But am also interested in an XL trim with upgraded wheels. This will be a 2nd vehicle my family mostly driven by me.

The best way to decide, IMHO, is to compare the standard features on each trim level and decide what are must-have features and what you can live without. Everything else is just other folks opinions and may not align with your preferences.

Cruse control comes on 23my. So it really just the wheels. Cheap to hid steelies. Don’t care for the orange accents on xlt and have an allergy reaction to whatever that use in fake leather in the lariat. No need for heated anything in normal TX winters. The radio in base models trims is really poor.

XL has standard cruise 2023. May be added on 2022 XL by purchasing steering wheel switch and enable using Forscan.
XL Hybrid with hitch is all you need and no extras.

I looked at a xl personally and the blue on black interior looks ugly, but the price is pretty.

I would say think XLT or higher

XL, for the price. Add CP360 for the power mirrors, even if you don't think you "need" the safety benefits. Add the hitch because, too cheap to pass up. Go with hybrid, for a huge bump in mpg. Done.

This is what I did on my 23my order. Oh, and I want the safety benefits of the CP360.

This all assumes you're able to actually find a truck with the stuff you want. Good luck with that- Ford hasn't been able to make as many as people want.

They opened up orders for the US market 2023 model and had to stop taking orders after a week because of demand.

The XL is clearly the value winner. I added CP360 and hitch. Every other option is a money-maker for Ford, but only you can decide what value they have. I ordered an Ecoboost because the order bank closed for Hybrids, plus hybrids are unobtainium. Seems like only about 1/3 of people who ordered hynrids have a chance this year.

I could understand 4WD & 4k towing if you have the need, I don't. 250hp is a lot for front wheel drive only.

Exactly. I had a Sport Trac XLT for 15 years.
Went Lariat Lux on my Maverick and have No regrets after 10,000 miles.

As mentioned above, only you can determine if an option is overpriced or not.
I am too used to keyless entry, push button start, heated everything and back up sensors. So Lariat Lux was the only option for me. Even loaded up, still a bargain in my book.
Didn’t need ACC, but it was included.

The 1989 Taurus SHO had 220hp and was considered bonkers for FWD. Most minivans the last few years have 230+hp and were all FWD (with optional AWD and now hybrid AWD on Toyota). Just have to be gentle on throttle sometimes, but same is said for high-power RWD too....

As said, only you can decide what is needed. Even the loaded Lariat is still a good value vs any other truck (and a lot of crossover) on the market.

Big wild card is what you can find, and how long you want to wait. If you're talking about needing one soon, you'll need to find on the lot new or used. Those will likely be more than a direct order. The XLs are marked up proportionally more than the Lariat, so you need to figure out budget, what you are willing to pay over MSRP, new vs. used, etc. Really it's more about price point and what you need.

Now if you can wait to order, then it opens things up. Personally, AWD, push button, backup sensor, ACC were all mandatory. That meant I had to go Lariat Lux 360+. At that point I wanted 4k and FX4 and sunroof, and 40k was something I could handle. So I'm getting a pretty loaded truck for less than most other truck's mid (or even low) trims. Honestly can't complain about the pricing at this point, YMMV on future years.
