Had an interesting talk with my dealer and Ford Chat this morning. They can both see that my order is in production – dealer said it was in 'bodyshop' – but neither dealer or Ford Chat could see a VIN. It was sort of my understanding that the VINs are issued before production starts, so I'm a bit puzzled. Does anybody have any insights?

Hi,

My dealer gave me a VIN last Friday. They said my build date was Jan 16/23 but there is not window sticker at this point in time

Your salesperson sounds like they're too lazy to log back into the system - absolutely they should be able to provide a VIN at this point. Ask for the manager if you have to. My Tremor isn't even scheduled to be built for another two months, and my sales guy texted me the VIN within an hour after a production week was first assigned.

Ford chat on the other hand - for whatever reason, many of the reps will not give you the VIN (and tell you to ask your dealer). If they dig into their screens, they can pull it up because a few Canadians have gotten theirs from CS chat, but more often than not myself and others have gotten "we cannot pull your VIN, ask your dealer".

Yep, my dealer got my VIN when I was scheduled for production and gave it to me as soon as they got it. If they can see any tracking at the dealership level they can see your VIN too as I understand it.

VINs are given when the vehicle is scheduled. I don't know how they could see the status of the vehicle unless there was a VIN?
There is a new tracker that is replacing the old "vehicle visibility" - maybe someone is looking at the new tracker and missed something??

Can you see it in Ford.ca tracking? My dealer provided my VIN and build week of Jan 9/22, but get an invalid VIN message when I try it in tracking.

My order number is the same as the orginal order number and with the old VIN I still get waiting for production.

Congrats on almost getting your vehicle! So the estimations of ~ 4 weeks from time of being built to delivery is about right based on your dates.

Mine was built on 11/30 as well with an expected delivery date of Jan. 1 to 7
I checked with my dealer about a month ago and I was told nothing was happening, the same day I tried the tracker, it didn’t work, so then I went on the chat, they told me to check back at the end of Dec because I did not make the last round of scheduling.
Anyway, I checked back yesterday, the tracker again didn’t work, but I received the good news from the chat that mine was built.
Ordered a MY22 end of Dec 2021. Flipped to a MY23 in Oct.
Hybrid, XLT Lux, sunroof, floor mats, added Black appearance package and remote start during the flip, the dealer missed the remote start. Oxford White.

I was there when the Sales Manager and another person both looked at the screen and neither could see anything that looked like a VIN. (I couldn't see the screen.) They also pulled up a screen that neither had seen before, and no VIN there either. They think the VIN might show up by the end of the week. I'm still puzzled.
