2.0 AWD 4k and I can't believe how poorly these tires handle snow/ice. I expected mediocre performance from stock tires, but these are borderline dangerous.

The AWD/traction control system does a good job controlling grip taking off from a stop, but once you get moving forward - good luck stopping - or turning. Holy crap.

Somehow these tires got rated "good" 6.8/10 in snow/winter from Tire Rack. Quatsch!

That's why mine are coming off as soon as I get the truck. I'll be switching to Blizzak WS90's for winter.

They just are not good tires. Really a head scratcher as to why Ford chose them for the OFF-ROAD PACKAGE. They are just not off-road tires, and apparently not very good for foul conditions on the pavement either.

I have a set of 245/65R17 Cooper Discoverer ATs in my garage, waiting to be installed on my Maverick immediately upon bringing it home.

I could tell by looking at these they are garbage. Having my dealer forgetting to order the silver wheel upgrade which also would have come with the 235's still frosts me. I just don't want to spend $2k on wheels and tires, but man I hate mine.

No need to buy new wheels. You can easily go to more aggressive tires and increase size too without changing the wheels.

I'll be ordering some 235/65/17 Wildpeak A/T3Ws. I have had really good luck with KO2s in the past, but I think they are overpriced and too heavy for this little truck. Hoping I'll like the Falkens.

I replaced my Pirelli's with Nokian Outpost APT's. Much better tire for both mild offroad and snow and ice (three peak snow rated).

Except I hate the wheels too. My truck was supposed to be optioned with the silver wheels and instead I got the black FX4 wheels.

Well, if you do decide to get new wheels, you won't find it hard to sell the FX4 wheels to someone else. Lots of folks with XLs out there who would love them.

What's terrible is that tire manufacturers often sell a different version of a tire for OEM applications. They might not be made in the same factory as the "same" tire you can buy at a tire store or made with the same exact compounds. Often in this day and age they are optimized for fuel economy as I think might be the case with the Pirellis sold with the FX4 package. This is especially true with motorcycle tires but happens with automotive tires too. Your Pirellis probably have a harder compound than the same tires you could buy from tirerack or discount tire which makes them even worse in the winter. I usually sell OEM tires or try to trade them in, there's always someone willing to give you at least a few hundred bucks for brand new take off tires.

I think the black fx4 wheels are the best looking ford wheels ever. And I’ve never had a good set of pirelli tires
LOL. I think you need to look at some more Ford wheels. I know most people don't dislike them in the manner that I do. But the combination of the 225 tire and that wheel is just not it for me.

As long as you're standing closer than 5ft to them, otherwise they just look like black steelies anything more than 5 feet away to me and in just about every photo on this site.

I gave up on Pirellis after the first set I bought 25 years ago, dry rotted in less than 2 years and they refused to warranty them saying it was "normal".

Yeah, i don’t like the way the tire fits. I’m talking about the actual wheel. Tires are consumables so they will be getting replaced anyway then I’ll buy a decent size
