Just read in another post that Ohio has a hundred dollar hybrid licensing fee. Any other states have this? Also with all the EVs coming out how are these states going to handle the road tax?
With a Hybrid fee 😉

All registration cost should be based on weight anyway. How much a vehicle weighs makes a big difference in road degradation. EVs weigh more than their ICE cousins, problem solved.

Roads need to be smaller anyway, states were drunk on gas tax money and need to rethink transportation systems without it.

They want to install a mileage tracker in your vehicle so they can tax you to the fullest. Complete invasion of privacy. Complete government overreach.

Also, don't assume your local DMV knows what the hell they're doing. I remember an early post from someone here in Alabama, went to register their Mav and the local DMV kept insisting there was an extra fee because their "system" said so, it thought the Mav was a plug-in. Guy ended up having to call Montgomery to get them to update their computer system with correct information before he could complete registration.

I found this on the 'net:

State-By-State Fees

Here's a rundown of the states that currently charge electric-vehicle owners added fees, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures:

California: $100 annual fee for a zero-emissions vehicle. Starting in January 2021, annual increases will be indexed to the consumer price index.

Colorado: $50 annual fee for full-electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles.

Georgia: $200 annual license fee for “noncommercial alternative fueled vehicles,” including EVs, but not PHEVs (unless the owner requests an alt-fuel license plate). The fee is automatically adjusted on an annual basis.

Idaho: $140 annual fee for EVs; it’s $75 for PHEVs.

Illinois: $100 annual fee for EVs beginning July 1, 2019.

Indiana: $150 annual fee for EVs; it’s $50 for hybrids and PHEVs.

Michigan: $135 annual fee for non-hybrid electric vehicles weighing less than 8,000 pounds; it’s $235 for those weighing more than 8,000 pounds. The state charges hybrid owners an extra $47.50 and PHEV drivers an added $117.50. These fees are indexed to the state gas tax and would rise incrementally if it is increased.

Minnesota: $75 annual fee on EVs.

Mississippi: $150 fee on EVs and a $75 fee on hybrids. Beginning July 1, 2021, these fees will be indexed to the inflation rate.

Missouri: $75 annual fee on EVs, and $37.50 on PHEVs.

Nebraska: $75 annual fee on alternative-fuel vehicles, including EVs.

North Carolina: $130 on plug-in vehicles, including EVs.

Oregon: $110 annual fee on PHEVs beginning on January 1, 2020.

South Carolina: $120 biennial fee for EVs; it’s a $60 biennial fee for hybrids.

Tennessee: $100 annual fee for EVs.

Utah: $60 annual fee for EVs; it increases to $90 in 2020 and $120 in 2021. Hybrids are assessed a $10 fee that rises to $15 in 2020 and $20 in 2021. It’s currently a $26 annual fee for PHEVs that jumps to $39 in 2020 and $52 in 2021. In 2022 increases will be indexed to the consumer price index.

Virginia: $64 annual license for EVs.

Washington: $150 annual fee for EVs.

Wisconsin: $100 annual fee for EVs.

Ohio has a $200 EV fee. I know this because I have a Chevy Bolt EUV. I don't really agree with our $100 hybrid fee since the cars still use quite a bit of fuel.

I heard some states are looking into a mileage based tax instead relying solely on gas tax

That's quite a few. We are encouraged to buy fuel efficient vehicles but then get charged for it.

Yeah here in OR we have a fee for the annual registration that is based on the model of the truck or car you have. Those with straight EVs pay a bit more than those with a hybrid. They are trying to level the tax base for those that no longer pay or pay less for gas.

The car or truck still needs the road to get from point A to B and there is a cost to keep that infrastructure in shape. The cost is a pitance compared to a dented rim or broken glass because something went wrong as you were enjoying that MPG estimate on the display in front of you.
I think you can argue that EVs are actually worse on the roads than an ice vehicle. They typically weigh more and that's what damages roads.

Electric Vehicle (EV) Fee
EV owners must pay an annual fee in addition to standard registration fees. All-electric vehicle owners must pay an annual fee of $200 and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle owners must pay an annual fee of $100. Beginning July 1, 2023 and every fourth year thereafter, EV fees will increase by $3. A portion of fees contribute to the Electric Transportation Infrastructure Grant Program, which provides grants for EV charging stations.

That's one of the reasons I ordered the EB instead of the hybrid, no savings. Too many vehicles, too little time.
Other than the $1000+/year saving in gas?
2022 Hybrid was also $1000 less to purchase, not sure about the 2023.

You have to drive a certain number of urban miles to accumulate that $1k saving. Get it?

When I requested a quote from the tag agency here in Oklahoma I was informed of an $88 hybrid fee.
