Now I'm thinking of possible hiding spots for a key. Don't have a Mav yet, so I can't look around inside to find one. In the Ecos perhaps you can hang the key on the seat adjustment lever, or mount a travel soapdish under the dash somewhere and put your key in that. In the Hybrids, maybe the gas door. Those with power locking tailgates could put the key in one of the side boxes. Any ideas anyone? If you don't wanna reveal your own hiding spot I understand
The door cavity is a good option with a water bottle in the door. Unless they're familiar with the Maverick they wouldn't know that space exists and wouldn't even think of taking the water bottle out to check.

That sounds like a decent spot. Maybe velcro a bag or some type of container to the inside of that area so it doesn't make any noise when the door is closed

If you don't want the Maverick to "see" the key put it in the bottom of the storage cubby under the lift out with a rag over it.

I am not sure but if a thief can steal your credit card in your wallet or purse I suspect the technology is out there to read the signal from your key fob. A key fob is very handy, push button start eliminates the key wearing a hole in your pocket. Basically no car is 100% protected. I worked in a area with high car thefts and my insurance rates reflected it. I drove a beater but people who had newer cars had kill switches installed. With key fobs I do not know if kill switches are a option today. Just a tip if you park a car on the drive way and you have a garage door opener in it take it inside the house. If they get into the car then they have key to the house

Yes. I do it all the time. Why is it dumb as f

The key being in truck doesn’t help the crook if it’s in an inconspicuous spot and in a Faraday pouch.

Not like the crook is going to go searching for a hidden key in the truck. He would already have alternative methods of stealing the truck once inside unless he’s stealing valuables which would not be with the key anyway.
It's dumb AF because they will have other ways of stealing it and you just gave them a key once they have time to go through the car.

1) LOCK IT
2) TAKE THE KEY WITH YOU

Sometimes life really is that easy.

My 2014 C-Max won’t let you lock the door with the key fob inside.

On the XLT key, is the security chip on the blade of the key or in the fob? I would like to get a regular key with no fob and epoxy a magnet to it

If they have already stolen the car, why do I give a flying F if they find the key later?
Sometime life really is easy. Leaving the key "hidden" in the door makes mine even easier. :)

Have you complicated your life by buying a Faraday bag to keep in your house to prevent relay theft in your driveway? Probably as important as leaving or removing the key from the vehicle. Of course, a lot of this whole debate is dependent on where you live and/or work.

Keeping it in a Faraday is far more important than if you lock key in truck or not.

walking around with key not in Faraday puts you at much higher risk.

i dont see why its such an issue to just carry your keys with you. why make it any easier for some crackhead to take off with your truck?
Thank you for a little common sense.

The slightest of inconveniences apparently outweighs taking a little responsibility and the potential for a much much larger inconvenience when your truck is stolen and can't be replaced for at least a year if at all for a hybrid.

Ummm. There is next to Zero greater potential that the truck will be stolen. The key is in a Faraday and not somewhere a crackhead looking for valuables will find it.

if a thief breaks in with the intent to steal my truck, he has other methods planned. Finding a hidden key in a Faraday is not going to be his plan

Plan on it. I was looking for a legit reason I may have missed not “ it’s dumb as f” with no basis for the remark.
Or some desk jockey whining about laziness of not taking the key.

a key hidden in the truck in a faraday and using keypad entry poses no greater risk unless, of course, the thief knows there’s a key in a Faraday in the truck and searches for it.

All you married men who claim they never have and never will leave your keys in the car, you have. When my wife and I go to a large social gathering she puts her purse, with her keys in it, under the seat.
