Have you tested this on a Maverick? I have several times on my lariat luxury hybrid. If I leave the key in the truck with the window down get out and lock it, I can come back and climb through the window, start the truck and drive off without ever touching the key.

I don't know if this is an oversight on the Maverick or what, but I've done it multiple times so I wouldn't trust leaving my key in the truck on a push to start on a Maverick.
I don't leave the window down and I put the key on the back of the trunk. I'm presuming how it works based on experience. I could be wrong.

Tested on my Escape.

So how did you get back in the vehicle to test whether or not it would start with the key in it? Or did you never get out of the vehicle?

Never got out. And I routinely leave the key in my backpack in the trunk so I know it wasn't a location thing.

Could be the car knew I never got out. But without breaking a window or setting off the alarm, no other real way to test it.

Leaving the window down, then locking the truck is what I did. The truck's alarm system does not know whether you left the window down.

Leaving the window down.
I'm too old to be climbing through windows. And the car requires the brake to be depressed to start.

I hear that. That's what I did, I suppose you could use a broomstick, lol.

In your case, I'd almost say the trunk is too far away for intelligent access key to work anyway. Did you try it in the seat next to you?

RISKS OF NOT LEAVING YOUR KEY IN THE CAR:

1. You might lose it. I presume the price for a new fob and programing runs about
$450.

2. You will lose confidence in your mental faculties when you have to look for the key about three times a week.

3. You may risk stares from persons of the opposite sex (usually opposite sex) who notice the bulge in your tight jeans from carrying the fob in the pocket. Some may consider this an advantage, but risky behavior could result.

4. You will just get tired of the hassle of the whole process of locating and carrying the fob. Being tired of the hassle can lead to a bad attitude which may carry over into your driving habits leading to potential destruction of your Maverick

I will guess that of those who try leaving the fob in the car for one week, most will just let the potential thief give it a try. If the thief is good, he may very well pick a more expensive vehicle???

Just do it as the situation seems fit. I've lost a key in the literal desert riding moto before and for that ill use the keypad tactic for when I'm out adventuring. Most other places I want to use remote start(not the app) so I'll bring the key in(mainly in winter).

You guys actually think if some tweeker gets into your truck rumaging around for anything to steal comes across the keys will say, well that's not what I was looking for, and keep looking for spare change! He will laugh, drive your truck to the nearest place to swap it for dope or into a wall whichever he finds first.

I don’t put the key anywhere a thief rummaging for valuables would look. And it’s in Faraday. If they are in and plan on taking truck they have other methods than my key

Yes push button start. The key being in truck doesn’t help the crook if it’s in an inconspicuous spot and in a Faraday pouch.

Not like the crook is going to go searching for a hidden key in the truck. He would already have alternative methods of stealing the truck once inside unless he’s stealing valuables which would not be with the key anyway.
You can still hot wire a push button start and unlike a keyed truck you shouldn't need to also be able to unlock the steering wheel. Anyone who has actually done this or knows someone who has can chime in on the not needing to also unlock the steering wheel.

So the idea is that it's easier to put your key in a shielded pouch before you get out, then get it out every time you get in the car so it'll start, then put it back in again? I feel like a pocket is just a better option.

Most here are talking about when you may be doing something where you don't want to carry a key for risk of losing/damaging it.

Trail/road running, kayaking, swimming, etc.

the small risk of a smash break in and steal is worth it over the annoyance of keys in pocket for a run, bike, kayak, etc.

the keypad is the only reason i buy fords.
