If I go to hospital, or have to leave, and no one is there to start it: Will the lithium battery have enough volts to start the engine after about a month?

Or does the 12v battery start the engine.? If so then I can just jump the 12 volt battery when going to use the maverick again.

does maverick have to be taken to dealer to charge the lithium battery.

thanks for any answers

If it doesn't start, a jump from another vehicle will start it. Check the manual to be familiar where the cables go before it happens. You don't need to go to a dealer to charge the battery.

Ford pass app lets you schedule starts. I've done that on colder mornings with my wife's Escape to get it going at the same time as our alarm. You can set that up on your phone. After 15 minutes, the car will shut off.

I cannot speak for how that works with a Hybrid.

The 12v battery "starts" the Maverick. Although the engine doesn't technically crank like a gas car.

If the 12v battery is dead, the vehicle wont turn on and the lithium battery wont help it turn on even if the lithium battery is fully charged. As long as your Maverick isn't affected by the wiring harness problem, it should start after a month. When a car is parked for 3+ months, that's usually when the batteries die. The Maverick battery is a bit smaller though so it could be sooner im not sure.

If the high voltage lithium battery is drained but the 12v battery is charged or jumpstarted, then the gas engine will turn on at the same time the vehicle turns on and wont turn off until it is charged. The Maverick is capable of driving even when the lithium battery is drained, the gas engine just takes over.

The lithium battery shouldn't self discharge as much as the 12v battery does when parked over a long period of time.

Just keep a noco boost jump starter under the rear seat. If the battery dies while the car is locked with the windows rolled up, you can still access the car by manually opening the door lock with the key to pop the hood and jump start it.

Does require storage steps ( mostly to protect 12v battery) for more than 2 weeks.
Setting up a once a week start on FordPass app should last many months on a full tank of gas.
Otherwise, get the hvb fully charged by over a dozen highway miles before parking in garage and putting 12v on trickle charger. The type of chemicals used in main high voltage battery does hold charge for long time by battery standards. Likely 6 months safely.

Yes. In Hybrids the traction battery provides power to the electric motor which turns the ICE over, rather than a 12v starter motor like a ICE only vehicle. But, if the 12v battery is dead none of the 12v systems work, so there is no computer to tell the electric motor to start from the big lithium battery. Thus you need the 12v battery to start.

The manual says the vehicle should be started for at least 30-45 minutes (if I recall correctly) every two weeks to prevent the 12v and lithium packs from draining. The suggestion above to scheduled remote starts via the Fordpass app isn't a bad idea, as long as the vehicle isn't kept in a closed un-ventilated garage. In a garage you could use a battery tender, but it needs to be one with a setting for AGM 12v batteries.

well now i feel a bit more confident from each of your responses. I did look up the ford pass prior to the initiation of the thread. however my understanding is there is a at&t app needed for purchase.
Also not sure if the ford pass will work hybrid xlt or is it just for non hybrid.

I am glad I wrote this thread knowing now a bit more how the 12volt battery engages with the larger battery.

Ford app is free, setup acct with Ford BEFORE paying for car. Ford gives about &200.00 of Ford points to pay for oil changes and add ons.
The built in cell data device is on and paid by Ford. If you want to ADD your data plan as well that is separate.
It’s not clear, so I had same view as you till more people chimed in to clearify.

FordPass Connect functionality relies on an AT&T modem that's built into your Maverick's Telematics Control Module. This allows your Maverick to connect to the internet and provide remote access features.

In order to access those features on your Android device or iPhone, you just need the free FordPass app. You'll create a Ford account and register your vehicle with it. Then you can open the app on your phone and initiate a remote start.

Note that this feature requires that your Maverick be in an area with AT&T LTE coverage (populated areas shouldn't be a problem), and your smartphone will need to be connected to the internet as well.

With the app, you can lock, unlock, remote start, and flash the lights, on any new vehicle as they're all equipped with FordPass Connect (short of fleet vehicles that may not have the TCM).
