If this is a silly question I am sorry. I am not a mechanic or engineer. I can watch a few YouTube videos and basically become an expert though. I want to add the sport mode and eco mode to my FX4. could the programing for those two drive modes possibly not be optimized for the different gear ratio of the FX4. Could those setting possibly cause problems long term (like sand mode on dry pavement). Maybe that is why they are not included with the FX4. Again I don't know what all the drive modes change in the engine and what different gearing would do. Just a thought that maybe someone who knows might be able to explain.
Final drive ratio is the same for FX4 or non FX4 equiped 2.0L ecoboost engines. That covers all your drive modes so no since the gear ratios are the same.

The final drive ratio that is quoted is controlled by the transmission not the rear end. Underneath the torque convertor in the transmission housing is drive and driven gear. One gear spins the torque convertor and the other gear is spun by the internals in the transmission. They are connected by a chain. The amount of teeth on each gear and length of the chain determine the final drive ratio.

If this is something that one does not feel totally comfortable or willing to do themselves, what would be their options for having it done for them? I'm assuming this is something Ford dealers will not touch. Thanx. Asking for a friend. :)
Address your fears with enough research and YouTube to begin to feel comfortable. It's really not hard at all.

Thank you. I didn't know how it worked, but I figured it would be OK. I added both the sport and eco modes. Oddly enough I added them for the sport mode, but use eco all the time. Sport mode burns too much gas.

I can't speak for all the modes but the FX4 ones they automatically disable the traction control and do things like using the ABS to vary the wheel spin on the left and right side to create a fish tale effect to get the truck moving in snow. Sport mode on the other hand changes the throttle response when you press the gas pedal to give the truck better acceleration. Second you do that it also adjusts the amount of gas injected into cyclinder to maintain the programmed air / gas ratio.

Spot on...

Did it this AM... LOVE IT!

Watching a number YouTube installs over the previous few days got me comfortable with the process and it turned out to be a cinch...
