I (mistakenly) have 2 Maverick orders from Oct 2021: one is built and expected to arrive Oct 8-14 and the other is scheduled for production next week (but already bumped once).

Here's the conundrum:
  • Order 1: I told the dealership to cancel this order the day after placing it, they apparently never did. The dealer would not honor my X-Plan pricing (I work for a Ford supplier) so I moved on to another local dealer. However, this truck is now built and on the way
  • Order 2: Ordered at X-Plan price, scheduled for production next week, but who knows if it will continue to slip
Dealer 1 will not honor the X-Plan price still and continues to push me off until the sales manager returns from vacation sometime next week. The have offered MSRP but at an MSRP that is ~$1500 higher than when I ordered. I provided the order sheet I have which shows a higher price and they have not produced what was submitted on their end. The original salesperson is no longer at this dealership.

Dealer 2 will honor X-Plan but no confirmation on when the truck will be here (not the dealer's fault). This dealer has been easier to work with and I'd like to give them my business. I've asked about transfering the truck from dealer 1 and then dealer 2 can "trade" back my other Maverick when it arrives, but nobody likes this idea.

What would you do? Any recourse I have with dealer 1 since they submitted an order in my name but did not cancel when instructed to do so? They appear to be trying to blow me off and sell the car to someone else at a markup.

If you can swing it, I would buy both and sell one of them. Even if it is only a slight profit after taxes and fees, better than letting the dealer mark it up 10K.

I mean......assuming you can get approved for financing on both, just take whatever crappy finance rate the first dealer tosses at you and then pay the loan off in 1-3 months with the proceeds from the sale after Maverick 2 arrives. Your interest payment for that short time will be tiny and easily covered by the profit you make on the sale.

This is exactly what you should do! That first dealer sounds shady and there is no reason why they should be rewarded for their "mistake".

When your truck comes in, see if it's the way you wanted it. (with the options) remember a bird in the hand, is worth two in the bush. You will pay what the price was when ordered, not what's on the window sticker. Also the second truck may not have all the options when built. If you have to pay the higher price ($1500) you'll forget it over time, just chalk it up, and enjoy your truck. That's what I would do.

Yes I considered this but honestly I am not interested in the hassle of selling private party and I don't think there is money to be made flipping it to a CarMax or equivalent

I am in an almost similar boat. I have two orders. One is scheduled for October and the other is getting rolled into a 23. I'm going to re-order the second one and if I at least get scheduled before the 1st one is delivered I am taking the second one.

I thought about taking the first and selling it when the second one comes in, but the market has definitely cooled off since people are waiting out for the 23s now. Don't know if I would get my money back and if its worth the hassle.

"Flip" it via trade-in to the dealership selling you Maverick number 2. Trade it in for what may very well be the full price...... Your second one is on X-Plan, right? This could still put you ahead on the purchase of number 2.

Something to keep in mind as you work through this. I think that AXZ purchases must be retained by the original purchaser or the AXZ discount must be returned to

Dealer 2 order is at X-Plan, and per X-Plan rules the vehicle can't be sold within a certain time period (I forget the exact time but something like 6 months)

Yeah, I mean trade in the "non-X Plan Maverick" when buying the X-Plan Maverick. I bet you could come out even and in the process not let the first dealer make 10k off a markup on "your" truck. Second dealer who treated you well can mark it up as used. Everyone is happy other than the first dealer who gave you a hard time.

He is saying to flip the 1st one that won't be at X-plan price so you would still be okay.

Have you looked at the Carvana and Vroom asking prices for these Mavericks? I have no doubt you could flip the first one for a profit with little to no hassle.

Either trade in #1 when you purchase #2, or flip it to CarMax (and I'd be willing to bet there will still be a hefty CarMax markup to be gained...)
