To answer your questions, it is a paint protection. Think of it as a clear film around the whole vehicle that you can't see. It's like having a clear bra installed on the whole car with the added benefit of no ugly seems where the clear bra stops. Also, it is extremely water repellent. Instead of the water curtaining or just sitting on the paint, it will bead and repel right off of it which makes maintenance a breeze. Speaking of which, bug guts or road grime will also repel right off and not stick to the paint. It is well worth the investment if you want to keep your vehicle protected for the long run.
That is exactly what I would want.... thanks for the extra info!

Nice, any thoughts on it for someone who lives down a dusty dirt road and has switched to cyber orange? My truck will be sirty all the time and will see mud throw every day going up my driveway. Think it will help or last or just be futile?
Definitely worth it...did the Porsche to the left and did not wash it for probably a year. When it collected a little dust only sprayed it off with a garden hose and dirt and dust just rolled off. After about a year I used the ceramic car washing soap, which helps keep the ceramic water beading longer...After 6 yrs it still beads water and have not waxed it since ceramic was put on 5 or 6 yrs ago.

No matter what you do, vehicles stored outdoors will not have ceramic or wax last as long.

Ceramic coating are made of silica and titanium dioxide, when mixed together and when dried, forms a silica (glass coating) and is hydrophobic (repels water) and forms a thin ceramic shield above a car's clear coat. There are several grades of amateur and professional ceramic coatings on the market today. The professional versions are just harder and last longer, but the amateur versions are no more complicated to apply than wax, but still last 5, 6, 7 years...the life of most people's cars.

Caruba wax, which is what most car waxes, are made from, is a palm plant oil and realistically only lasts a few months comparted to ceramic coatings.

Turtle Wax hybrid ceramic DIY for less than $20 , lasts up to 1 year.
same great look!
It’s very different from an actual ceramic coat. It’s a good alternative to traditional wax.

I am sure it looks awesome but is out of reach cost wise for most. ThenTurle Wax and several others do a good job as an alternative.

You noted "the seam Is barely visible". Does this mean you apply the clear bra first and the ceramic coat is applied up to but not on the bra?
Ceramic coating can go over the paint protection film. Just gives it a little extra shine. At least one brand of paint protective film has built in ceramic coating. Can't remember the brand. Nevertheless, point being you can apply ceramic coating over the film. I do.

As of this morning, I picked up my Ford Maverick Lariat from an appointment at my local detailer to ceramic coat it for me. Let me just say I could not be happier with the results. It literally looks and feels like glass. It doesn't even feel like I'm touching paint anymore rather it feels like touching a window. It looks better than new. I figured since I'm keeping this vehicle, it's well worth the investment. It's reassuring knowing that my vehicle is well-protected for the long-run. All I have to do is maintenance washes and spray it with quick detailer. I never have to hand-wax it ever again. For anyone that hasn't had this done to their own Maverick and intend on keeping it (not reselling it for a quick buck), you should definitely have this done. You will not regret it.

Lasts a good year for $13 a bottle. Good enough.

The only problem I had with it was dirt and water spots were really difficult to get off using it.
Had to use detailing spray and microfiber clothes and really scrub to remove them.
Ceramic coating, they just wipe off like dusting a piece of furniture.

Hmmm...I haven't experienced that. I'll keep an eye on it.

Xpel has the hydrophobic properties (I assume they have multiple lines, the self healing one is what I'm getting that does not need a coating)

I used a silicon dioxide mix that just wipes on wet or dry. TEC582 cost about $20 for the small bottle, enough to do 2-3 applications. The money I was going to use for ceramic coating I spent on a pressure washer and some accessories.

It wasn't a dealer. It's an independent detailer that I know.

how long does a good ceramic application take? i have heard some do it in 2 hours, that seems like a short time based on what others i read say. lots of people in my area pretending they know shit cause bozo killed oil so they think they can detail cars here to pay the bills.
