I'm considering ceramic coating. A local shop here is offering 2 years - 5 years - and lifetime. Since I've never had this done, would lifetime be worth it or just go to 2 years? The lifetime is $900 more.

Also, would paint protection be needed as well? My paint color is Cyber Orange.

One of the disadvantages of living in a large metro area limits our "cheap" prices.

Another question. Should I wait to install my tailgate letters until after the coating or does it not matter?

If I were you, I would install them before getting your ceramic coating. That way the paint is in its stickiest form before it gets silky slick after the coating. This way it creates for a better bond.

To answer your questions, it is a paint protection. Think of it as a clear film around the whole vehicle that you can't see. It's like having a clear bra installed on the whole car with the added benefit of no ugly seems where the clear bra stops. Also, it is extremely water repellent. Instead of the water curtaining or just sitting on the paint, it will bead and repel right off of it which makes maintenance a breeze. Speaking of which, bug guts or road grime will also repel right off and not stick to the paint. It is well worth the investment if you want to keep your vehicle protected for the long run.
It's not uglier than the black textured or glossy hood protector. If someone made a clear hood shield I would have backside painted body color.
