Hi,

I've got a velocity blue XL hybrid, base with mudflaps on order - 422 days into the wait. I kind of ordered it as a "let's see what happens" thing on the recommendation of my mechanic. But now that my VW is getting much closer to it's end of life, and the car market is still crazy, I'm glad I have this on order.

I just wished I'd ordered it with cruise and heated seats.

And then I found this phenomenal forum with folks that have sorted out how to mod the mav with both options.

You guys have done great work at building a community here.

422 days! Welcome to the forum. I personally can't do some of these mods, but there really is a load of them from very talented people here.

yeah, I'm kinda surprised it took this long . . . but the VW hasn't died yet so . . . Ford said I shouldn't have gotten the mud flaps they extended the wait . . . ah well.

You are nearly certain to be pushed to 23MY. If you have a hybrid in order and it hasn’t been scheduled yet, it’s likely it won’t be.

Put hang in there and don’t cancel your order. You will be a first priority in 23 scheduling and will get a private offer (rebate) from ford to offset the price changes that have occurred since you ordered.

Welcome to the Zoo and good luck with your Mav.

Welcome to the forum! That is a very long wait on a simple build. I would be concerned that the dealership didn’t process it correctly. Have you confirmed that your order has been ROVP approved?

oh I have a vin; and a confirmation email from Ford on the order, . . . they said it would be produced in August and that I should have it in Sept/Oct.

of course I got the email from ford stating that might truck might not be made this year on the same day the dealer called and told me I was on the production schedule.

but it's interesting to see how many folks have had their production dates changed. So will see what happens. If I get pushed to a 2023 model maybe I can keep the 22 pricing and get some of the additional features that I want.

Ok, cool! If you have a vin, you will get a 22.

You can an add cruise control (with forscan support) and a leather wrapped Ford Fiesta st steering wheel at the same time all for ~$300 or so. It makes a huge difference.

You could not order cruise or heated seats on an XL. For many options you had to step up to XLT or Lariat. Adding Cruise isn't that difficult, there are many threads on doing it. I just changed the steering wheel switches and programmed with Forscan, some are buying a different steering wheel due to XL being plastic. Hope you got Co-pilot360 so you'll have power mirrors. Hybrid Velocity Blue owner here with factory spray in bed liner, Co-pilot360 and trailer hitch. Ordered on July 23, 2021, arrived at dealer on March 22, 2022. I'm getting 45mpg in town and 35-37mpg on hiway at 70-80mph.

Other added things are:
FoMoCo Mud flaps, front and rear
FoMoCo Power tail gate lock, replaced the manual lock
FoMoCo all weather front and rear floor mats
FoMoCo bed mat
"Spider" hub caps (wheel covers), $50 from Amazon

Hope you got Co-pilot360 so you'll have power mirrors.
No pilot360, but I'll be the only one driving so I can just set the mirrors.

I had a '90 mazda B2200 (ford ranger) in college and that thing had manual everything, no power steering, no power windows, no power mirrors, bench seat, no back seat, c clamps and plywood blocks holding the bed cap/topper on, stick, no cruise, rear wheel drive and still managed to survive midwest winter driving.

Loved that truck. it moved me 4 times, hauled appliances, lumber, and I could still parallel park it in Chicago. slept in the back with a twin mattress when camping.

So I think I'll be okay without the pilot360, and I can totally live without the cruise and heated seats, they are just nice to haves with winter driving and anytime I have to drive across South Dakota and eastern Montana, but are by no means required. really love all the tutorials on here for doing the cruise installs, and kinda looking forward to messing around in Forscan.

My diesel takes forever to warm up and having heated seats is really helpful for the first 20 min of -30F winter driving. With the Mav's hybrid and a gas engine, I'd expect the cab to warm up faster so the need for heated seats is far less.

My dad told me to get the factory mud flaps on the VW when I bought it and for the last 5 years I really wish I'd listened to him. Dad is always right. so since I'm looking at getting a new vehicle again I'm making sure I listen.

Upgrades/Improvements under consideration:
  • cruise
  • I probably need to do some kind of bed cover. I've been looking at the trifold hard bed cover options. though I loved having shell on my mazda even if they don't look as cool.
  • I'd like to do a 3M scotchgard paint protection option (it might be kind of fun to install on a saturday).
  • I've done stereos before and I have a really nice sound system in the VW so I'll probably upgrade at least the speakers if not more.
  • I'd also like to put a hitch on it so I can haul my folk's Go trailer back from MT.

I'm getting 45mpg in town and 35-37mpg on hiway at 70-80mph.
Super excited about combination of mileage and functionality of the truck. The VW has given me >40 mpg for nearly 20 years and I can get a bunch of stuff in the hatchback. So I'm glad to hear the epa mileage numbers are on the low side for the Mav.

Things I wish I could answer with a test drive/ hope to answer by reading the forum:
  • How bad is the road noise?
  • The VW has super supportive seats (that are still awesome) how is the comfort level/supportiveness of the Mav seats?
  • How is the mileage through the mountains?
  • How does it perform with towing (<2k lbs)?

Road noise is not bad, I've found tires make the most road noise anyway. Factory tires aren't bad. At lower speeds when the ICE kicks in you do hear the engine. Keep in mind it is a lower $20k vehicle, you're not spending $50K or more.
I'm good with the seats, I'm 70 years old with minor back trouble and find them fine, even on a 3 hour drive.
I'm sure towing 2K lbs the truck will know it. Not towing I was/am surprised how much pick up it has.
Biggest mistake you made is not ordering the factory trailer hitch for $100
In mountains you'll see mileage drop going uphill but downhill will be great I'm sure.

Mr. Wrench, I for one am very happy you are here! I love your patient attitude and optimism. I feel like I have waited a very long time, but you sure have me beat. Maybe Ford is not picking on me after all.

Maybe it's those durn splash guards?

How hard can it be to make splash guards?

Your Daddy sounds like a wise man, and if he says to get factory splash guards, I will also follow his advice.

Thanks for your insight on the road noise and seat comfort. I got my VW in dec of 04 (for an 05 MY) for $19.3k it has truly been an amazing car. it's my primary basis for comparison as it was the first new vehicle I'd purchased.

You are likely right I should have just had the factory install the hitch. but I honestly put the order in on a bit of a whim, the VW was still running pretty well last summer. 14 months on I have better knowledge now and would have made different decisions. I'm not super worried about adding an aftermarket hitch; though getting it in for <100 would be a hard price to beat.

Thanks again for sharing your experiences!

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Ford is not picking on you. . . the supply chain is in rough shape for all industries.

Looks like it might have been a good idea to get aftermarket splash guards as it looks like the factory ones might be damaging paint (found on another thread this morning).

Good luck with the timing on your Mav. (they just moved my production from Aug to 9/5) maybe I just need to go find another VW.

When last I looked, Weathertech was out of stock for splash guards. Whodothunkit?
