If I can block the heat with tint that also provides me more privacy I'm going that direction. Turns out my shop in town does do ceramic, but I didn't ask about their %s and stuff. I'm just going to check around.

I actually work pretty close to law enforcement. At least where I am - they don't even have the equipment to check tint.
We had a rash of really dark tints and people shooting cops oh 30 years ago, that’s when it happened. In fact I think it was Richardson where the shootings occurred, not Plano, but our cops became VERY proactive about enforcing it (wonder why?)

I feel that people that are going to commit crimes in that manner aren't going to be too terribly deterred by not having the tint, but I do get where you're coming from.

I just enjoy not being stared at, and also it keeps me from wanting to sign my dismay at some other drivers if they won't see it anyway lol

This was so dark a tint that you could not see the occupants in sunlight. TX has subsequently passed max tint laws IIRC

Ahh yeah - that's a bit too much. It's definitely not legal here as well. The tint shop will go past the legal tint in exchange for you signing that it's like a novelty and you give up your warranty for the tint itself.

I'm going to get the windows tinted as dark as is legally acceptable under warranty at a local shop and buy one of those "cut-to-fit" windshield screens, is there anything else I can do to have it not be hotter than a horse in high heels when I get in my car?

Current ride is black - which is obviously just the worst for the heat. Got the A51 Maverick so at least that'll help some.
Hello PapaNer... just a quick FYI - Consumer Rs just issued a study on the effect of interior car colors... and indicated that Black or dark colors are insignificantly cause for higher temps when compared to lighter beige interiors... and this is not to dissuade you from your actions going forward... just is what it is...

I'm directly referring to the exterior color of my car, which is why I also mentioned the exterior color of my Maverick.

The area over my dash where the window is lowest has gotten so hot in the summer I have seen bugs fly into it, hear a pop and die from being fried. Other than having to remove the dead bugs, i had no problem with that ;)

Another note; every hybrid I have seen has had a fan that will turn on to circulate and expel air if the cabin temp gets to high for battery safety. That’s hotter than we would like, and I have not seen mention of it in Maverick literature, but as I have said every other one has it.

window air deflectors can also allow a tiny air gap if needed. I remember when there were little solar powered ones with integral fans so windows could be “rolled up” into them though that may have been a 90’s 00’s thing

The Maverick's battery isn't mounted in interior of the vehicle like many other hybrids.

That would make a difference

First off, there's no heat in UV radiation. All those UV ratings are meaningless for heat. All radiated heat is found in IR, infra-red, radiation.

UV-blocking films will have no effect on interior temperatures, without a significant IR component.
- pick high UV film for protection against discoloration, fading, upholstery degradation, etc.
- pick a high IR film for heat.

... cops carried meters ...wonder what it’s frequency spread was ...
Anything used to predict human perception will use a "visual" correction filter to try and match the scotopic visual sensitivity. It's a very wide curve; no places for notches.

Please provide a link.

CR knows nothing about studies on car interiors. Window tinting gets you home replacement windows (same issues), but nothing on car windows. This looks like a troll post.

Look at the new Escape Hybrid. It has a cooling pump, which could be considered a fan in a different state of matter, I guess, but it's the liquid that makes the difference. Air cooling can't move enough heat.

I'd get quality tint over dark tint. I have full-ceramic tint that blocks 99.99% UVA/UVB but its VLT is 70% (so it's basically clear). I can press my arm right up against the glass and barely feel any heat, and I don't get the one-arm trucker tan anymore. It did cost a pretty penny, but it's worth every penny.

Tinting the windshield with full-ceramic is also an option. It's probably not legal in most jurisdictions, but if you get a 70-99% VLT film and get pulled over, it's probably not because of the tint.
If you are getting any kind of a tint to block UV A or B through the front windshield you are being scammed. To quote from my default search engine NCBI: Laminated glass totally blocked UVA radiation, All glasses totally blocked UVB radiation.

laminated glass is what is used for windshields and has been for decades

now side windows can allow for higher transmission as they are typically tempered glass.
