Damn, that’s terrible. Complete opposite experience for me. Dealer said no markup, went thru all the vehicle etching, ceramic coating and fabric protection at the time of order, declined all. Picked up early March to exact same price as ordered, 20 min with financing and out the door. Best experience in buying a vehicle in all my long life. My salesperson kept me up to date.

I’d talk With the owner and try to resolve with having names and numbers of local reporters, every station has an investigative one. Have them if possible put what there doing in writing. If no agreement, blast them on social media, contact ford and if close enough, make trip on the weekend and make a scene at peak times.

if you blast them on reviews, you have to be persistent, because they pay people to bury the bad reviews.

At the bottom it said "*plus taxes and fees". This was never laid out specifically.

It isn't a markup I am pissed about it was dealer add-ons which are additional things dealers add on which are not Ford factory options. So the ford factory didn't add ceramic coating, the dealer themselves had it added at the dealership. The salesman told me the features are standard on all the cars on their lots. He also said all the dealerships do that.

I see you live in Kailua, thats where I am currently dealing with so be forewarned.
Whatever you decide, I would consider starting another thread, something like, “Purchasers from Hawaii please respond” because we’ve seen threads from other Folks in Hawaii and maybe you can learn about their dealers and experiences.

On a different note, when my daughter’s wedding gown didn’t come in on time and the vendor was delaying giving us our money back, I made a sign that said something like, “Protect yourself. Ask me about my buying experience,” and I paced back and forth in front of the store and eventually went into the store and said nothing but held my 8 x 10 sign. I was called to the desk and got my refund.

No one ever asked me anything, but I was hoping to save someone distress and at the same time, get some attention from the store for fear that they might lose some business.

I do think consumers want to help each other over bad practices, so maybe a fellow Hawaiian can steer you to a reputable dealership within your area. I know your choices are limited, but you’ve got to go with what you can live with.

Good luck!

Unfortunately the dealer owns the car. Ford can't influence the price once dealer takes possession. You have a dishonest and opportunistic dealership muscling you. Walk away and spread the work to let the public know.
I was fortunate to have a sales staff and dealership that honored the terms and delivered my Maverick in 5 months.

If you pay it you will be unhappy the whole time you own this truck. When selling time comes your Screwed. Not going to get your money back in a couple of years. Definitely recommend another dealer. Yes, he will sell it but let someone else get screwed that wants too.

You know there are dealers who do not mark up the Maverick. You can go online and look up the list of dealers who do not mark up the Bronco and ask them if they will also sell the Maverick at MSRP, most of them do for both. Instead of giving your business to these shady dealerships that do these things, take the extra time to find one of these dealers and even if they are a small commute out, it would be worth it both to save some money and to not give business to these dealerships that do these practices...

That's what I did, I found a dealership that's a 30 minute drive away and ordered through them and got the truck at MSRP, built exactly as I ordered.

Even ignoring all of the add-ons, dealerships are not supposed to mark up the MSRP of the vehicle if you custom-ordered it. I'd walk away on that alone, they are clearly a dishonest dealership and taking advantage of you.

I'd tell them to take their fucking Maverick and shove it up their fat, bloated asses, in those exact words.
I'd also tell them that Karma is a bitch, and she is going to fuck them up the ass until they bleed.

Seems so shady.

I'd back out. If the car hasn't been financed/paid for there is usually a clause in most purchase orders which allows you to walk away, no problem.

Alternately, take it for a test drive and accidentally back it through the dealership's front door. Then tell them it's not what you were expecting and you don't want it* ;)

*Don't actually do this... at least until you check how well insured you are&**

**Seriously, don't do this.

So I ordered a Maverick XL in January and it just came in. I got the base model upgraded with the gas engine, a tow hitch, and tail gate lock which made the truck about $22K. Dealer told me that their markup was $3995 due to the high demand and limited supply of this truck. This wasn't going to be open to negotiation. I knew the market situation is what it is but I was really looking forward to this truck so I said ok and signed the order form. No down payments, just the price of $26K and it also said "*plus taxes and fees".

Well the truck came in, I test drove it, and there was $2,500 in additional costs. totaling over $28,000 WTF?!
$400 for VIN etching on the window
$500 for cleaning fee (covid related)
$1500 for ceramic coating.

I am pissed now because I didn't order or want any of that. I thought taxes and fees were sales taxes and registration fees, not add-ons. A ceramic coating isn't even a fee like a cleaning fee, it is a product! The salesman's boss said he could take $500 off the ceramic coating but I told him I didn't want to pay for a ceramic coating at all and even said I was willing to pay for the cleaning and VIN etching. I said I would come back Monday (tomorrow) so the wife could see the truck but basically I have to decide by tomorrow. I want the truck because I am tired of throwing 2 sheets of plywood and logs on my SUV roof but our current cars work fine and we aren't in need of a new car. What do you guys think I should do?

1. Pay the price
2. Demand they take off the dealer add-on costs and threaten to contact the BBB and leave negative Yelp reviews if they don't comply? (The have a wait list and know they can get full asking price so the only real bargaining weight I have is bad press)
3. Buy the truck and try to turn around and sell it for a small profit
4. Walk away, wait an additional 6+ months to order a new one and specify no dealer add ons. (dealer mark up may be higher in future depending on demand/supply, they were talking about increasing markup by another $2K)
Wow, what a joke these dealers are ! I am from Illinois and had to drive to Michigan to get MSRP . Well worth the 4hr drive for me and the dealership was awesome!

Start an email chain with your dealer voicing your objections. If their written replies are unsatisfactory, post them on multiple dealer review websites for all to read.

If you decide to move forward with the purchase make certain you get a Ford satisfaction survey and rate them with the lowest possible scores in every category.

Another option may be to try finding a dealer on the mainland (who either has one in stock, or, will honor a 23MY order when the order bank reopens) that will sell without markups and addons and have it shipped to you. Total cost is likely to be less than the local dealer is gouging you for.

@fordvideoguy did a whole segment on this. You may want to go back through his YouTube Monday night videos from January into February.
