Maybe, maybe not. Most vehicles have a decent spread on price range, so a Maverick First Edition may well be above the price of a base new '23 Ranger.

That is just about the same as asking if someone would spend $36K for a loaded Lariat or buy one of these:

Nobody is going to cross-shop a loaded version of one vehicle and the base model of another! The only real difference between the two currently is that the Ranger is bigger, rides rougher and can tow 7,500lbs (if you get the tow package...). That difference isn't going to change with a model update.

I do all the time, particularly if they are in the same general niche.

People may not shop a Maverick vs a GLA because those are different classes of vehicle, but plenty of people will cross shop a 2023 Kia Sportage and Kia Sorento as while base for base the Sportage is cheaper, a Sportage SX is about the same price as a Sorento S and while the size is different for some people the 5.5" length difference still fits in their garage so works either way.

An equally equipped Ranger comes to nearly $48k, which I'd say is considerably more expensive than the FE Maverick. The base Mav is $20k while the base '22 Ranger (extended cab though) is $25k. That's a 25% price premium and even more if you compare the Crew Cab Ranger ($27k, I think).

This isn't a difficult concept, the prices of the Maverick and Ranger overlap, as do the prices of the Ranger and F-150. Its always been this way. No one is saying you should buy one or the other, just that they aren't inherently more expensive. If they were, then a fully loaded Maverick would be less expensive than a base Ranger, which I think everyone can agree is not the case.

No sh!t it's not a difficult concept, but neither is the concept of a "similarly equipped vehicle". The F-150 "starts" at $29,990, so I guess it's basically the same price as the Maverick, right?

The price ranges overlap, but the base models are $20k, $25k, and $30k. That's inherently more expensive as you move up the line, which makes perfect sense. Further, when you consider that the base models of both the Ranger and F-150 do not have four doors, the "apples to oranges" idea comes into play. For reference, the base Ranger 4DR is $27,700, while the F-150 is $37,700. I'd consider that a price premium.

That's inherently more expensive as you move up the line, which makes perfect sense.

You're still confused about what the word "inherently" means. When you use that word, it means that a Maverick is by its very constitution is always less expensive than a Ranger, and its not. I made a statement of fact that the prices overlapped, and in the very first post explained why by comparing a top trim to a bottom trim, so I don't see why you feel the need to explain something to me that I told you first. Whether or not the redesigned Ranger (for which we don't have pricing yet, but hopefully it will start at the same $28K base price) appeals to you, there will be people with a budget that overlaps both models that cross-shop the two and a base Ranger may very well be better equipped than a base Maverick... for example, rumor is that even the base Ranger will have a fully digital instrument cluster and portrait orientation 10" Sync 4 infotainment system, putting it more on par with a XLT Mav. We'll have to wait and see, but my point was don't dismiss it yet thinking its going to be inherently more expensive than a Maverick, that's very unlikely.
