Perhaps but now you're gonna have Ford hiring "junkyard miners" to collect these used chips? And would you want to pay the same for a used or "refurbished" part as you would for a new part? I've bought refurbished stuff before, but knew that's what it was going in and paid a considerably reduced price for the "privilege."
Another great point of view, thanks.

I wonder if the chip install goes with the truck/warranty or owner. Might be a way to control flipping if only original owner can get chips installed. Thats assuming they actually go through with this disaster.

Mine was "built" yesterday, so I'm curious if I'm going to be buying it on the installment plan. ;)

I had read that Ford had just signed a contract with a U.S. semiconductor company. That should increase costs to some degree. I have a build week of March 28th. Still keeping my fingers crossed.

Ford is referring to F-150’s…right? 60,000 of the ones sitting in Kentucky. I believe both KY plants are shut down as there is nowhere left to park them.

I’m guessing a large sticker placed somewhere that says “CoPilot 360 not active” would do the trick, as well as “You want the pickup? Sign this liability waver.” I’d sign it no problem.
Ya I didn't want it I've talked to a couple of other people I personally know and most have eather turned off/ or turned down as mush as possible the safety features.. On their vehicles saying that they are annoying..
I didn't want the option... Part of why I only ordered a xlt.. I would rather have a lariet.. But what I do want with the lariet isn't worth the price increase to me and it has stuff I don't want / don't care if I have... The 360 is part of that...

That would explain why mine went from no ship date to it will be here first week of April!
I am out and done with Ford if this is the case!
I hope you don't think this is just a Ford Problem. I fault them for lack of communication but not the supply chain issues.

. I’m thinking if I have to wait for what I want, the way I want it… I’m waiting. If that means MY23 so be it. At 71 years of age, I’m not buying a pig in a poke. I want my Maverick done right the 1st time. If Ford can’t make that happen I’ll be a disappointed Ridgeline driver.
I expect that will be the case. I would not sign any purchase if I wanted it as a complete truck. But if I have an option to get the truck rather than wait - I might take that option. So I think they are giving some people an option. I don't think anyone would be forced to take a 1/2 built truck.

Some of us use them year-round for back pain (preferably we could turn on only the back and not the bottom, don't need a toasty rear in summer, just back pain relief!).
I was feeling crummy last week and I would use it everyday even though it was 70 degrees outside. The warmth feels good.

Well finally some better news on this subject, IMO, (assuming article is accurate) which I have no reason to doubt. I don't think any of the vehicles are "sitting in the desert", "rat invested", etc., as noted by some on this forum, I would believe they are on Ford's secure property or leased secured property. I would be fine with the way this article on the subject describes the proposal: :) https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/ford/2021/07/19/ford-chip-shortage-vehicles/8013003002/

Im personally not a fan of this. If I buy a product I expect it to be 100% built and ready for use.

Interesting article, but a bit dated. This article shows it's all about Wall Street and dealers. They could care less about cold behinds. They are just covering their own asses with investors.

I have relied on this system since 2016 in my Rav4. With so many trucks, large SUV's and shopping carts running around parking lots and the idiots that use the parking lot as a race track, your peripheral vision and neck movement can only go so far unless your an owl.

It has saved my rear end on many occasions due to ignorant drivers that will not allow anybody a chance to back out but expect other people to let them back out.

On a lighter note, the Dollar Store is the $1.25 Store now.
Dollar store? I used to go to a 5 and dime store.

I don’t like this. If I’m forced into a buy it as is or lose it situation, the warranty should start when the truck is complete as I ordered it!
