Hello all. Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself and my story & situation/plans. I started in Ford auto sales at a dealer in Lansdale Pennsylvania in 1997 (at the age of 20, which back then was unheard of) for over 23 years (at the same dealer) up till January 31st, 2020. I left on disability (I always paid for my own extra 3rd party disability insurance for years) due to suffering for years from severe Crohn's disease (and before that Ulcerative Colitis since I was 16 years old) and I didn't go back (went to long term after short term ended). I was in really bad shape and needed to go & take care of myself.

Well, back in 2016, my dealership got bought by a local bigger auto group and I lost my demonstrator I had for many years, so I leased a Fusion Energi. Used it 2.5 years, hit the miles early, programs were crazy so released a 2019MY in Feb 2019. Well, my lease was TECHNICALLY up 2 days ago.

My plan was to order my Maverick Hybrid XLT later last year but with Ford closing the order banks on November 14th, that changed my plans a bit. Last summer, Ford offered 12 month extensions due to inventory shortages. Well, they stopped that near the end of last year and were only doing 6-months. Thankfully, my old boss sent a message to the local Ford Credit rep, saying I wanted to order a 2022, couldn't and will place an order a 2023 on the day they open the order banks. So I was able to get a 12 month extension (which are 12 one-month extensions basically).

So I'll keep my Energy for the time being while I read the posts here and follow along. My original build would have been an Hybrid XLT with the Lux Pkg, tray liners w/o carpet mats and splash guards (if available) in Area 51. Dropped the hard tonneau, as I will get a whole tonneau and kayak holder kit aftermarket later since where I live, the Schuylkill River is literally 2 minutes from home and my wife & I can get some small kayaks and enjoy the river & lock.

Will be a wait, but I waited a long while for my 2006 Mustang GT I ordered myself and in August 2005 (when they did the retro styling and were crazy popular. Took over 6 months back then which was long). Look forward to chatting with others who may have questions on dealer stuff, since I did it for so long (and I was the "car guy" at my store, who lives for cars, and I knew my product). Have a great day everyone. 👍👍

Yes, I didn't order it in time, as they shut the orders off earlier that I anticipated, so I am kinda forced to order a 2023 if I want to build to spec. Finding one isn't an option as I'll be ordering it X-Plan (since I worked there for so long), and I don't want much options other than the Lux Pkg on the XLT. Plus, being an ex-salesperson, I loathe ADMs (never charged it for ANY of my Shelby orders all those years. All were MSRP) and would rather wait for a 2023 built my way, for X-Plan.

It's okay as it gives me more time. I can get a 2023, maybe there will be a few minor changes, and I'll be able to get back to work (on LTD due to severe Crohn's. It's what made me leave the business, as I was a wreck health wise, but not selling cars). It will be worth the wait (I drove their 1st stock EB XLT and it was awesome).

Apparently it was a self push. OP appears to be happy with the 23
Sort of. Texted my old coworker my specs in late November and he said it was too late, so not entirely by choice. Had Ford still allowed the order to be entered, he would have. Again, NBD.

There's nothing wrong with your post, but you might want to edit the title.

When people read that you "got pushed to a 2023 hybrid" they think you mean that you ordered a 2022 hybrid and your dealer is telling you that your order will be canceled and re-placed as a 2023.

That's a pretty sensitive subject right now as people with orders are waiting to see if, when, and how much it happens. Ford is already telling folks that they may have to drop some options if they want to see their 2022 order filled.

Thanks for the tip. Edited the thread. And yeah, I've read that thread about the possibility of dropping some options (I lurked before I joined). The thing that really gets me, and makes me feel bad for everyone, is that some of these dealers and salespeople won't get on the phone and just call and keep in touch with you all.

When I sold cars, I was the one who LOVED to actually order a new vehicle for someone. Actually asked if they weren't in any type of time crunch, and didn't mind waiting, they could build to spec. A lot of dealers loathed it back then. They wanted the sale now. Me, I looked at it as money in the bank, with a guaranteed sale, and the customer will be happier knowing they are getting EXACTLY what they wanted. And if I ever had to call a customer to tell them we need to make a change due to a commodity restriction, I would make the call ASAP, and not stew like I've read.
