Tell that to the guy that had his previous transportation breakdown and needs to go to work. I've read several such situations
Oh well in that case then I guess Ford should just give him a vehicle because we feel sorry for him. There are literally a hundred different options if you need transportation and to say that this one make in one model of vehicle is the only one that he could purchase is ridiculous. I just passed the Chevy dealer and there's a Chevy spark crap box out there that I'm sure they would give him a good deal on.

You don't HAVE to buy a Ford Maverick, plenty of other viable options out there. Sorry but a very specific car is not a necessity. Being in an emergency situation and at the same time being picky about HAVING to have one of the most in demand vehicles in the country is just plain idiotic.
Are you telling me that when legal action was taken against price gouging on toilet paper and hand sanitizer there weren't other options out there. I could say that would be incorrect. Alcohol for one. Bidets, corn cob or phone book for the other are substitutes that have been around for quite awhile. Your definition of necessity and mine apparently differ. .

You should hire a lawyer on retainer and sue the dealerships, let's see how that works out for you.

Price gouging occurs when companies raise prices to unfair levels. There’s no rule for what qualifies as price gouging, but it’s not an uncommon occurrence.

I believe they have crossed the line between supply and demand and entered gouging territory.

There's right and wrong in a free market system and you will be judged by your actions and your associations

You ever hear the expression beggars can't be choosers? Are people trying to buy homes right now going to sue someone because they can't afford a house in the market they want to be in? Sorry, a truck is not a necessity and your argument is ridiculous.

You didn't address why the Dealership changed their process after this screwup.....obviously the kid made his point ...it would be nice however if their was an apology for the misunderstanding to go along with this change in process and since the markup is a moving target it appears, an adjustment would have been nice and good marketing. Last I looked that video had over 5k viewers and growing. Oh ya you also failed to mention that the kid said he had text messages. We don't know if that is true or if they are telling but that sure doesn't look good. Obviously this is not a Tim Bartz issue and you are right he didn't need to address it but he did as best he could considering he works for the dealership.
@fordvideoguy was transparent about the miscommunication and refunded Phillip Langenberg (his name is on TY as the video author) his CC deposit. I will not watch the video because I know Tim would not purposely "bait and switch" any customer. Long McArthur ordered 531 Mavericks with 10 of 64 June, 60 of 187 July orders unscheduled. I cannot see how Mr. Langenberg can justify LM wanting to sacrifice it's North American reputation over 2500 dollars.

You know what would have been nice? If when a buyer cancels out, the dealer goes down the line of unscheduled orders and offers it as MSRP to any willing takers in the order que. Fills "an order" and moves everyone forward one step. THAT DEALER WOULD ROCK and have the BEST REPUTATION.

Taking the health implications of the pandemic out of the equation, The difference here is a phone book or a corn cob are not reasonable substitutes. A Toyota, in the other hand, is a reasonable substitute for a Ford. Bidets are not particularly common here, and I would argue that most people would not consider taking TP away as reasonable. If all cars were withheld and someone said you should use a bicycle, I would agree. But what we are talking about here is the price of Charmin increasing, but AngelSoft is still a viable, reasonable choice in a pinch.

To be clear, I dislike how dealers are marking up cars, and I don't think it's a fair practice, but there are alternatives, and we do live in a mixed-market economy where this can occur.

Yes, ADM's are whacked but does this mean that nobody can raise used car prices and if not why not?
What's the difference?

Because it's not a used car. It's a new car that the dealer was willing to sell to the original buyer for MSRP. They lose nothing if they sell to a secondary buyer at MSRP, as proposed by the MANUFACTURER.

I am more than glad to give Tim a break! So when does the customer that they mislead via their salemen... when does he get a break?
The customer got his deposit refunded in full. Now he's free to purchase a vehicle of his choice from whoever he wants. His 15 minutes of fame will be yesterday's news in the same fashion as the lone YT poster who shot the fuel-filled catalytic converter video.
