Auto dim rear view mirror Install tip to remove center console with sunroof

So I just removed the center dome light console and I thought I would share what I learned to save others time. You cant just pull the panel straight down, it pivots in the front, ( so pull down from the back) and in the back there are 2 metal clips you need to push to release. I didn't know that so when I pulled the panel from the rear the metal clips popped out into the crevices of the head liner, Luckily my truck has the sunroof so I could use the gaps to fish them out with a magnet, In models without a sunroof it will be difficult to find the clips if they pop out. So I will post some pictures that should make it easy to make sense of what I just said.

Thank you for the tip. Did you pull switched power for a mirror from the dome light, if so can you tell me which is the correct wire?

It also looks like in the second picture there is another panel above the mirror at the top of the windshield that is removed. How do you remove that one?

The panel above the mirror has 4 plastic clips, it just pulls away from The glass. Im still sorting out the wire situation. I ran out of time before I could finish.

Here's how I wired mine. Actually the blue connectors were too big, I had to switch out for red connectors.

I reeeaaally appreciate you showing this. But of course my dumb ass misunderstood what you meant by pivots from the front and I broke the front clips. My brain thought “oh since he said when he pulled from the rear the clips pwinged off, that means I should pull straight down from the front to pivot it, starting from the front.”

I get it now but hopefully my dumb mistake will be avoided by others. Thankfully, the panel sits flush even with the clips broken.

It looks like you did not use any wires in the overhead console, is that correct?

Looks like you tapped into something under the black cover against the windshield, please let us know.

I couldn't find switched power at the dome lights So I wired it to the front camera.

I ran the wires to the overhead lights in the roof liner. Then tucked the wires from the mirror under the black over

I have my $20 mirror (dim and compass only) and waiting for the truck (ships 3 weeks). Any concerns about tapping in to the camera harness? I have used some version of these connectors before for lots of auto mods but not 100% comfortable with them. I don't care about the mirror failing but I do care about the camera and any possible FoMoCo warranty claim rejection. I would also like to avoid removing the map light panel. Oh, anyone see an option to make a chassis GND connection without tapping in to a wire but using a screw to body/sheet metal?

We tapped into the console light harness on the roof, not comfortable doing anything with the camera module due to potential warranty issues.
