So I figured I would go ahead and start this thread. @propp2531 and I have been working in the background on the potential of swapping Sync 4 into our trucks. Non Sync 3 Maverick systems present a challenge since an APIM does not actually exist as a separate module. The screen and software are run directly from the ACM. This means an adapter harness must be made to add in the required APIM and the ACM has to be swapped for a sync 3 based ACM. Thankfully that is fairly easy with passthrough harnesses existing for the ACM and all of the required leads for the APIM connector exist on the OEM ACM wiring.

And for those wondering, this method would also work to add Sync 3 to non Sync 3 systems. Programming of Sync 3 would also be much easier, but where is the fun in that!

This would be great. I'd like to upgrade to sync 4. But I would have to have someone else do it. Back in the day we would take our vehicles to an auto audio place to have speakers upgraded, or a different radio installed. Would be nice to have this done as well.

Current challenge is getting Forscan to recognize the Sync 4 APIM. I have an email into Forscan support asking about the issue. My guess is they just have to release an update to activate Sync 4 support in the Maverick. We shall see what they come back with.

Easily one of my favorite things about these new vehicles is the little "hacks" you can do. Enabling the Eco and Sport modes was great, now this.

Very cool and thank you for sharing!

On a related note, is there any additional functionality that is available as part of Sync4?

Wireless Carplay and Android Auto would be the biggest added functionality with Sync 4! That is assuming the programming works out.

The sync 4 has wireless Apple CarPlay, does that work with this?

Theoretically it should but I need to get access to the APIM with Forscan to work on some of the other programming issues first. Right now the APIM has greyed out anything related to bluetooth.

Very cool. I imagine that's a different APIM or hardware though right?

It should be tied directly to the APIM so assuming we can get the programming correct and everything functional, when the phone is paired over BT, wireless carplay should be enabled.

I'd love to do this when I get my Maverick. You all are amazing for making this possible! Would this also enable navigation?
You would need a nav specific APIM. If you go sync 4 you need to make sure you get the 8 inch screen apim. Not all will work. I don’t know if ford makes a nav 8 inch apim though

If you do sync 3 you need a gen 4 apim with nav available
