I'd take an EV Mustang if I were willing to spend money on two new cars. Of course, by the time I actually get the Maverick I'll probably have enough saved to pay cash for both.
Me Too! Ford won't be making any money on financing from me as I will have cash saved to pay for it!

They'll be running on a "Flux Capacitor" by then ;)

Today, Ford announced lower than expected stock returns with an almost 8% drop compared to their expected 11.2% gain. Ford's financial expert says this is due to a chip shortage, but it really comes down to the fact Ford cannot move the product to dealers, and customers are not able to purchase their vehicle.
Ford recently stopped taking orders for Mavericks for the remainder of 2022, with orders resuming in late summer for 2023 models. Many of us who placed orders in June - August still await any sign of a build date from Ford or communication from our dealer. The semiconductor shortage was already a high priority for auto manufacturers before the June roll-out of the Maverick. Ford should have seen the limited ability to build another product in the Mexico plant that was already struggling to build Bronco Sport. Ford made no issue in controlling the on going demand of placing reservations to create a "Beannie Baby" or "Cabbage Patch Doll buying frenzy for a truck touted to be UNDER $20,000. It seems Ford allowed the orders to keep piling up knowing there would be long term delays. It is very sad that a new product as the Hybrid was rolled out in such unfortunate times; but it is very unresponsible for Ford to allow the orders to keep coming in, allowing more and more consumers to become angry and distrustful of the brand and their dealers. No wonder their stock is down.

Now, many order bearers are faced with a choice of waiting for an unknown timeframe in getting their Maverick, buying something else (Which ends in Ford not making a sale at all), or paying whatever a dealer asks. Enter unscrupulous, greedy, used car salesman!

For those who feel the need to purchase a Maverick from a greedy dealer who is marking the vehicle up $3000-7500, which I see in many local dealers, remember your decision will haunt you for a long time.

First, like any new car, your Maverick will depreciate 25% the minute you drive it off the lot. This depreciated amount is related to the MSRP, not your sales price. So, if you paid more than the MSRP, you really got screwed, because you now lost more than the expected depreciation. And if you took a loan out to buy the Maverick you will pay months longer for a car not worth what you owe. Also, any profit you may have made in your trade-in car was just dropped out the window forever due to you paying more than MSRP for your Maverick.

Second, your taxes on the car will always be based, year after year, on your purchase price, so each year you will be punished for paying more than you should have for a vehicle that is nowhere worth what you paid for it.

And third, your insurance will be based on what your car is worth (Kelly Blue Book) as identified from your VIN number. If you paid more than the MSRP, you better have GAP coverage as most insurance will not cover more than what the vehicle is worth.

All around, it is better to wait and pay the agreed upon price than to be bullish and foolish by paying more than retail just to be "the first Maverick on the block." Just my thoughts. Some may offer different opinions, but financially you are not doing yourself any favors by paying for Ford's mistake in tking orders for something they knew they could not produce.
Couldn't have anything to do with the semi conductor shortage could it

Yes, it has Everything to do with the chip shortage. That is why Ford should have been responsible and stopped taking orders far before it got to this point where people are waiting an expected year for their ordered Maverick. We were never told it could take longer than six months and the chip shortage was ongoing when we placed orders in June, July and August.

As I told my local dealer if I knew it was going to be this big of a pain in the ass I would have just walked on to the lot bought what they had take my chances

Today's bloomberg report showed a decline in stock. I remember when Sears and K-Mart also made huge profits. Where are they now. Treat your customers well and they will support you. Lie to them or deceive them and they will leave you and find somewhere else to buy. Tesla is banking on Ford's inability to control this story. So is every other competitor who situs on the bench watching this Maverick, Mustang, Bronco sitcom play out. I'm a big supporter of Ford, and always have been. 90% of my cars have always been Ford. That's why I feel so strongly that they are continuing to shoot themselves in the foot. I don't want to own a PINTO or Expedition with faulty tires.
K-Mart and Sears declined because they didn't keep up with the times. Their stores were old and outdated. They were not keeping up with products consumers wanted. Customers moved on. Also, they had vendor payment issues, couldn't keep product in the stores because they didn't pay their bills.

Ford is completely the opposite. Their products are in high demand and popular. The press is loving Ford. Ford is keeping up with the times and trends, if not even setting them. They are producing very popular products. People are beating down their doors. It's just an issue of supply and demand. And in this case, there are severe supply issues compounding.

Your obituary of Ford is extremely premature. Your personal feelings are clouding your judgment.

Probably because the Maverick/Ranger/Bronco are the most in demand Ford vehicles and there aren't enough of them.

A lot of people buying more capable trucks for real towing are going with Dodge as they have a better value.

Nobody wants the EV Mustang, nobody wants the new Escape, the EcoSport is a joke of a vehicle, only police need the Explorers, and small little Transit/Contractor vans are sold out or have a huge markup.
I would have gladly bought the Escape Hybrid if it wasn't more expensive than a loaded Lariat Maverick 😭😭😭

This all just seems crazy to me. People are excited to pay MSRP or more for a new car that probably has some of the worst quality control in years... and most dealers dont even have parts to fix them when they break. I just dont see how this is going to be resolved anytime soon.

Why would Ford stop taking orders before their projections of how many they can produce by the end of the model year? They stopped taking orders for the Hybrid back in November when their projections of how many they could build was met. And they did the same for EcoBoost in January when it met that threshold.

They now are having even greater constraints occurring than they previously forecast. That is proven by the mere fact that ALREADY SCHEDULED Hybrids are being pushed back en masse, and pretty far out. Ford does not schedule a vehicle until it is lined up for parts for it. Something significant happened after those Hybrids were scheduled. Obviously something they did not know in advance.

Amazingly, Ford learned some lessons from the Bronco fiasco. To not just keep the order books open, but watch your production projections closely and close when needed. I'm actually shocked how conservative they were with the Maverick and closing the ordering.

Now, what Ford should do better is communicating with their customers. They think that over communicating delays will just keep reminding people that there is a problem. And actually lower their satisfaction with the process. They want their customers just to move along with their lives until one day they get a call that it has arrived. That worked for the Greatest Generation and Boomers. That thinking is way outdated.

But times have changed, and we live in the Amazon age and instant tracking updates. Our expectations have changed. Ford should revise this right away.

Here's an excerpt from a story about the Cyvertruck:

"Five people who forked out $100 to secure their Cybertruck order told Insider that they're feeling frustrated about the two-year wait, especially because they haven't had any updates from Tesla's customer service team.

Some said it was worth the wait, others requested refunds. They sent Insider email confirmations of their Cybertruck order payments made between 2019 and 2020.

Wayne Matus, based in New Jersey, told Insider that he made his reservation on the day of the Cybertruck's unveiling in 2019. He said he was patiently hanging on but was "amazed" that he hadn't received an email or phone call from a Tesla representative with more information.

"I am frustrated that Tesla has not contacted me as a customer,"
Matus said. "I am not sure how much longer I can wait."

Meanwhile, David Deschene has also been waiting nearly two years for his Cybertruck, he told Insider.

Deschene said he's "rather disappointed" with the release date changes, which he saw as "missed opportunities" because he could have traded his petrol truck in for other trucks that were released before Cybertruck, such as Ford's F-150 Lightning."

Look at that. Maybe Tesla should have stopped taking orders before it got to this point. And the F-150 Lightning is going to beat the Cybertruck to market.

Today, Ford announced revenue, net income and other associated financial information for the 4th quarter as well as FY22. From Ford's press release today:

"Fourth-quarter revenue ($37.7 billion), net income ($12.3 billion) and adjusted earnings before interest and taxes ($2.0 billion) all were up from 2020. So, too, was Ford’s performance against each of those measures for all of 2021. Full-year net income was $17.9 billion; company adjusted EBIT for the year was $10.0 billion."

Ford didn't announce "lower than expected stock returns", because companies don't announce "stock returns".

The Model 3 is now at 10-11 months…due mostly to the Hertz contract.
You know, a 10-11 month wait would be ok if I knew that going in. I'm over five months now and have absolutely no clue about when I might get a build date, much less an actual delivery. Ford has never been very forthcoming about the real wait times. The only things I have heard from them during these past months is something about the future and they were promising a bag of cheap pastic parts for having to wait.

I'm guessing a 10 month plus wait at thus point

Ford can't promise you a real wait time if they don't know it.
