Hello from ice-covered Pennsylvania! I sure as heck hope the groundhog doesn't see his shadow next month!
So, I was at the gym yesterday when I stumbled on a news article about Ford halting orders on the 2022s. I had been to a dealer a few weeks back -- about an hour from home -- that had an AWD model in stock as a "demo" and was able to take a test drive. Specs weren't exactly what I wanted, but overall I LOVED the vehicle and definitely wanted one. Still, I was a bit hesitant about placing the order. Well, seeing that headline yesterday pushed me over the edge. On the way home from the gym, I called the dealer and asked if there was still time to get my order in. The sales manager was happy to help and asked me to email him my specs when I got home.
I now have a confirmed order for an AWD XLT in Hot Pepper Red with the FX4 Off-Road Package, XLT Luxury Package and a full-sized spare tire. Seriously considered going for the 4K Tow package too, but at that point I was at $30,965 and didn't really want to creep up toward $32,000 for my build. Honestly, the FX4 package seems to include just about everything in the 4K Package EXCEPT the transmission fluid cooler and 7-pin connector. I have never used a 7-pin trailer (trailer brakes) in my life, and I have no plans to buy a camper or anything like that. Thus, I figure I'll be fine without it. I do have a small utility trailer with a 4-pin connector that I use to tow my side-by-side, but my machine only weighs 1,000 pounds. So, even with the trailer weight, I have some wiggle room below the 2,000-pound standard tow capacity. Plus, my personal feeling about the Maverick is that the overall form factor just doesn't seem like a beefy tow vehicle. I'd be interested in others' perspective on this, as I am sure there is still time to add the 4K Package to my order, as it will likely be many months before the vehicle is built.
So, now the waiting game begins! Honestly, I am telling myself the truck will hopefully be here by October. I understand that's when Ford plans to start building the 2023s, and being this late in the game to order, I figure I'm somewhere near the back of the line for 2022s. I realize the scheduling is more complicated than that and Ford could choose my vehicle for build any time, but I'm not holding my breath.
In the meantime, anticipation is half the fun, and there are lots of nice folks here to share the wait with!
