I had a Truck recently totaled so I decided just this month to go Maverick hunting. I have one safely ordered and have a "beater with a heater" until summer when it should come in. That being said, as I called around to hope to get lucky finding one on a lot for sale, I found that there were a ton of Mavericks out there on lots. However, time and time again I heard the same story. "This one is not for sale currently, it is a demo so folks can drive it, and then create an order for their truck" Well folks, Friday may be your lucky day if you have the extra cash to pay the outrageous markups that are sure to be in place. After Thursday it will no longer make sense for dealers to keep a MY22 Maverick on the lot for demo. There will be no way to order an MY22 Maverick anymore. Good hunting!!!

The dealer has to hold onto the vehicle for a period of time before they can sell it. My dealer currently has a Bronco in the showroom, but cannot sell it until March.

Dealer demo models need about 2k- 4K miles on them before they can be sold. I believe under 2k to still be considered a "new" car and after 4K miles it can be sold as demo model with a slight price markdown.

Generally as long as it has never been registered a vehicle is still considered "new". Some states do cap the mileage at which point that is no longer the case or requires certain disclosures, but it differs.

As someone who believes that break-in periods matter, I would not be eager to buy a demo model that’s been hammered by test drivers. Unless, of course, I intended to sell it within the warranty period.

That said, I know that many people don’t think that the break-in period is actually important, so hopefully they can get their hands on a truck before too long now!

But I like the thinking. Might be better than waiting for an eternity.

my brother just got into a Mustang MachE fully loaded for about 7k off MSRP because it was a demo model used for test drives. Had to wait till it hit 4K before it could be sold to him. 4K miles could also be an internal number dealers use? Possibly allowing them to get another demo model but only once a vehicle hits a mileage threshold?

Do test drives usually abuse cars? Legit question? I know when I test drove the maverick I was very gingerly with it and didn't do anything crazy. Just wanted a feel for how it handled.
Everyone's budget is different so I'm all for people finding unique ways to get into their dream maverick for as cheap as possible. As long as warranty is still good.

I think many people want to see how a vehicle handles before putting down money. So I figure that a high-mileage demo has zillions of high-intensity short trips—which would be pretty much the exact opposite of what Ford recommends. But, again, many people don’t worry about this, and I have never heard of an objective study demonstrating that break-in periods help or not with modern vehicles. Personally, I prefer to drive a new car gently for the first 1000 miles or so, although I freely admit that it might not matter.

I would think the large majority of test drivers are VERY careful driving them. At or under the speed limit, no break slamming, no jackrabbits, heck they probably kick their boots before they get in lol

Lol exactly. That's basically what I did. Someone at the dealership let me test drive their lariat before they signed and drove off the lot! Was very appreciative of that person.

I test drove a Bronco Sport a while back. I did squeak out a nearly imperceptable fart on the drive. So there is that.

Also I am a ginger if that counts.

Come Friday the dealers will be fleecing the flock.

There is an Area 51 XL Ecoboost at Greenway in Orlando. I declined a test drive yesterday because I am buying a hybrid.

I don't see any incentive for Dealers to offload their "Demo's". People are still going to be looking at them for the 23MY and if the dealer has a demo onsite it would probably be a benefit.
