If you aren't looped into the Apple ecosystem, you're probably better off going with an android phone. You can find inexpensive options/plans etc from MVNO carriers (they basically pay/piggyback on the main cell carriers networks). Mint, Boost Mobile would be good options for set low monthly costs.

I'd look more at what service you intend to use over which particular phone to get first. What do you want to use it for, anything beyond maps? Music? Sirius XM?

I would think either one would be fine. The Maverick supports both Apple Car Play and Android Auto, so if you alredy have a preference of one over the other I would stick with it.

No reason to choose a phone based on the Maverick, since both iPhone and Android will work fine.

I’ve owned both types, and they both have their pros and cons. I have settled on an iPhone for now, mostly because Apple seems to support them with software updates for longer than most Android phones.

First off I would like to use it on my new Maverick truck when I get it other than that Google, YouTube, and probably directions and mileage traveling different places and a decent camera to take pictures

I am retired and on a budget so I would prefer to buy the least expensive 1 but a decent phone not a piece of junk.

Maybe, but their software is way less buggy than Android Auto. Ive had Android Auto crash and lock up in my Maverick twice now in the span of only 2 weeks. Never had that issue with the Apple auto stuff when I had my iPhone.
Hmmm...maybe try a different cord? I've been running AA for three weeks and haven't had any issues.

Check out the Pixel 5a. It's not bargain basement, but will probably be one of the better midrangers for what you want. Particularly, the camera will blow you away. If you watch for a while, you may be able to find it for a discount. It's normally $449.

I'm not sure if this makes a difference and I'm sorry for not mentioning it in the beginning but I live in the middle of nowhere and the cell signal is at best very weak and about a half a bar .

That's more about the service you subscribe to. This phone is "unlocked" so you can take it to any service provider.

Phone doesn't have much impact on signal strength, the carrier is the biggest factor in signal strength. As friends and family in the area you are in who they use and how their signal is to get a feel for coverage. Something like the Pixel 5a is an unlocked phone and will work on all the carriers you can try out the phone on a network with an unlocked phone (BYOP or BYOD) you start on a month to month basis rather than a 2 year contract where you are often paying for service and the device every month, if you buy from the carrier the phone is locked to that network until you pay off the phone in most cases.
