The Hermosillo factory, the workers there, and Ford do not have any quality control over the parts that are supplied to make any vehicles. That responsibility falls on the supplier of those parts. The issue with the fuel tank and the spray in bed liner was not done at the Hermosillo factory. The Maverick is shipped OFF SITE to be installed by another vendor and is not done by any Ford employees. I will agree that the rear seat belt issue did occur during assembly on the finish line, but other than that, what information do you have that anything else was as a direct result of workers at the Hermosillo facility?
We'll, Ford offers the spray in bed liner as a Ford option which means they should have oversight and not just send it out to anyone that says they can do it. That just sends a message to me that I'm better off having it done myself. The uneven tail gate cables installed at the factory should have been an easy catch by the workers installing them. Attention to detail it seems would have caught these issues including the rear seatbelt issue. The one that stands out the most to me is the tailgate. How can you not see that and just send it on its way?

How are we to determine if our Maverick needs a replacement fuel tank? Can we inspect this on our own?
I would say a Big NO! The Recall Bulletin states that a Ford dealer has to drop the fuel tank and inspect and take photos of the damage and tank bar code before any parts can be ordered. Also, by what I understand the bolts on the straps that hold the tank up could break off very easy, and therefore if you drop the tank yourself - you would be screwed.

This is a Ford recall that is covered by Ford and under your vehicle warranty, if you do this yourself, you will run the risk of voiding the warranty recall and if there is damage to the tank, you would be the one paying.

Download the Ford Recall Bulletin 21C35 and read the outlined procedure that the dealer "Has to go by", it's like 11 pages.

I have the Spray in Bed Liner but looks like I just missed the batch with the damage. I ran my VIN# a couple of times to double check. So here is a question.. if it is recalled and you already have it.. Would ford provide a loaner?

Download and read the Ford Recall Bulletin 21C35 - It states that Ford has to provide a rental vehicle to the customer for this recall and as long as your truck is in service, you can use a rental at No Cost to the customer.

Unfortunately, I needed a new vehicle before January. My Maverick is still sitting in a railyard, has been since Nov.4th. I ended up buying a 2022 Ford Explorer ST-line, very nice suv more money but very roomy. Enjoy your Maverick's folks, if I had more money and time I would of bought both.

running the vin on your own to see if you are part of the recall is pointless, i ran mine on a few websites and it says it was ok, yet still had damage when they inspected.

OldSoulNewMaverick - Thanks and YES it really sucks. I was SO LOOKING FORWARD to owning this Maverick, only to have it sit in a parking lot for 2-1/2 months and now with this recall, it could be several more months. I haven't purchased mine yet, but if I had, I would definitely take advantage of the rental car option. Hope your Kia is repaired soon.
The rental was part of the Ford bulletin. You might still be entitled to it. I'd ask the dealer.

Why not keep track of the value of your vehicle over the next few months or years? Some of the used car buyers are paying a LOT more than just a few months ago. You might be able to trade in or sell your Explorer for almost enough to buy the Maverick; or even more in a year or two...

Luck,

No must be done by the dealer. They actually have to drop the tank to see the damage because its on the top of the can. They are then required to use new screws to put it back and if the can is bad Ford has to send them another. That could be a 6 to 8 week wait.

Hello Everyone! Final update on this post. I finally received my Maverick and it was worth the wait. It took 2 months to get the gas tank in and 2 days at the dealership to have it installed. I feel for everyone having to go through this process but know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Through the whole 2 month wait Ford never provided an estimate on when the tank would be ready so the dealership could only tell me the same. Then one day my dealer called and said good news, the tank came in with some parts today. Unfortunately it's just a waiting game.
