So looks like you cant pull them up too far or they hit the hood. Theres no way to lock them open to clean under in the home position. Just wanted to put it out there so no one chips their paint like I almost did.

Sure there is.
Turn the truck off.
rotate the wipers up the glass a bit.
Lift the wiper arm.

I've seen multiple people complain about this and I'm kind of flabbergasted. Every car I've ever owned required you to activate the wipers and turn the car off mid-swipe to pick them all the way up. I didn't know there were cars where this wasn't the case.

First I'm hearing of that one. My Accord doesn't require that.

I keep seeing this mentioned here, this is not a “fail” this is a standard design for aerodynamics, many new models are as such. My 2019 Audi is the same way. Really not an issue.

I’m the exact opposite. Never owned/rented a vehicle where the wiper doesn’t pull up from base position.

i have seen multiple people respond that when the maverick is off, the wiper arm will freely slide up so the arm can be tilted out. Can someone verify this is true?

Some cars have a wiper service setting to put them in a position where the arm or blade can be changed, not sure if the maverick has a setting for that as well.

What does the manual say for changing the wiper blade? it must be listed to prevent chipping the hood.

It says (source: https://www.fordservicecontent.com/...&userMarket=usa&div=f&vFilteringEnabled=False):

REPLACING THE FRONT WIPER BLADES
Make sure your vehicle is off before beginning this procedure.
Ford Maverick Wiper design Fail? {filename}

  1. Lift the wiper arm and then press the wiper blade locking buttons together.
Note: Do not hold the wiper blade to lift the wiper arm.
Note: Make sure that the wiper arm does not spring back against the glass when the wiper blade is not attached.
  1. Slightly rotate the wiper blade.
  1. Remove the wiper blade.
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Note: Make sure that the wiper blade locks into place.

This is a common vehicle design, to have the wipers protected under the hood. I'm not a big fan of it. But it is common.

Out of the 8 vehicles I have owned over the years I have never had to do that.

I have owned two Ford Rangers and a Hyundai Accent. None of them had wipers that operated this way.

I can’t find the steps to putting the Maverick into the wiper service position. Obviously there are easy tricks above that will work. I can’t help but feel Ford should have designed a real service position. Especially since Ford has designed service postitions in other vehicles.

The steps below are for a 2016 Ford C Max. I don’t have my Maverick so I can’t test it. Let me know if it works.

Test A
1. Star Maverick -engine on
2. turn Maverick off but leave keys in (if you have keys).
3. Pull wiper stock down and let go. See if wiper blades stay in up position.

If that didn’t work I changed step 2 below

Test B
1. Star Maverick -engine on
2. Shut off engine but leave it in run
3. Pull wiper stock down and let go. See if wiper blades stay in up position.

You don't need the engine on, just the car in Run. Turn it on and back off, then immediately hold down the wiper stalk for 2s. With push button start, push the button without a foot on the brake, immediately turn it back off and hold the wiper stalk down.

Worked on my 2016 / 2012 Foci (C-Max was built on the same line in Wayne, MI), doesn't work on a 2020 Escape. Probably won't work in a Maverick.
