Insurance looks like to me ~ rock or some road debris got ya.

I would rinse that area from time to time until you get a proper repair part installed, it is open to the elements from below so no harm no foul. If you were to pull the factory cold air inlet duct you will find there are actually two sets of openings for cold air but the factory inlet actually blocks the drivers side off, seems weird, but that drivers side inlet will let you see the back of that upper grill section.

Was running a clay bar on mine today and found a ding on the hood leading edge right above your puncture, a perfect little divot......good old DFW highways

Go to your dealer and have them explain how a "Built Ford Tough" truck has this happen at 1000 miles.

Worst case I take a dremel and cut out the rest of the plastic that is left and do the same to the other side.

Unfortunately wish I had a better idea. Insurance is too pricey for something like this.

OK, being that I've spent my entire career (40+ Years) in the injection molded plastics industry, I've got to ask, just how jagged or rough are the edges of the hole? This almost looks like a molding defect, what would be called a "short shot". If the right side is smooth and rounded-over, it didn't break off, it was never properly molded.

First post here !Not sure how this has happened.. or what to do now. Losing sleep knowing it is winter and all the salt and sand will be building up inside of here. Very disappointed on this quality of material. Looking for some advice … should I call my dealership? Local body shop ? Will follow up with a better picture. Thanks everyone.

I wish Ford had just matched the top grille with the lower. The fake top area looks so cheap on the XLT.

But again, I realize having it closed off is better for efficiency, however they could have left it open and had active grille shutters behind it like my Ram.
(and I am aware the Maverick has shutters at the very lower opening apparently, though not mentioned on Ford’s stats on the site)
