Thank you! I get it. All this waiting around for 6 weeks makes my mind wander!
You could always decline the order when it comes in and re-order what you want. That will add time but you get what you want. The receiver has more uses than just for towing things.

It sounds like you don't plan on reselling it in any timeframe that matters. And on the hybrids there is no cooling upgrade with the tow package; the extra power handling was fundamentally incorporated in the HF55 design.
Interesting, I did not know that. And I think a lot of people are unaware that there is no upgrade to the cooling system - was it the transmission cooling?

What most of us did during our wait times was focus our brains on the “stuff” that can be done with the truck. Bed liner, floor mats, bed cover, and all the smaller things you can add to personalize your Mav. Let your brain spin on those things. When I ordered mine I wanted the tow “just in case”, but the MTC would list parts availability and the hitch would have added two more months so I didn’t order it… and not missed.
What is "MTC"? I did not know about that, or I would have checked it out. Not sure it would have made any difference, but I would have liked to know.

I think you mean like holding a bike holder. What else is the receiver used for, and is there a real benefit to having the larger one?

What is "MTC"? I did not know about that, or I would have checked it out. Not sure it would have made any difference, but I would have liked to know.
Maverick Truck Club. You’re on it. When the orders were taking many months, there were postings on here listing build “inventory”. We could see how many of an item were available. In my case, there were no complete tow packages available so my truck would have been pushed baaaack! I got mine only 4 1/2 months after order (which was good in 2023 (and got a MY24!). :)

Many uses for the receiver; luggage/cargo platform, bed extender, anything just about. They are all rated for max weight of 400# IIRC. The receiver itself is the same whether you get the 4k or 2k rated tow system. When towing anything, the weight on the hitch should only be about 10 percent of the towed total weight.

Yes, Bike holders, extensions for longer things.

The radiator and cooling fan are the same, at least. Actually, I don't know if it was ever conclusively determined if the hybrids w/4k tow have an additional external cooler or not (even somewhat recent threads don't mention it). Ford did cite improving the cooling capacity of the HF55 in its upgrade as one of the factors allowing them to offer 4k towing.

I appreciate the response... my biggest worry now is simply timing out the sale of my '04 Sport Trac so I minimize the time that I have to rent a car ...
If you have the space, I'd just keep the Sport Trac until after the honeymoon phase with the Maverick has passed.

If you're short on space, well, a parking spot at a self-storage facility is pretty cheap. I rented a 9x18' parking space for like $100 a month at a Public Storage.

Bike racks, cargo carriers, bed extenders. If you never tow and don't foresee a need for that stuff, I wouldn't bother. The hitch itself can always be added aftermarket (though it'll cost a lot more than the nominal option price). The OEM hitch (available as an accessory) replaces the rear bumper crash bar. You can also get an aftermarket hitch that bolts on below the rear crash bar.

6 weeks? we early guys waited from 9 months to over a year for our Mavericks!
My bad - it was mid-April when I gave my $500 downpayment for the order. So it will be ~3 months, not 6 weeks, from the order to arrival. Much better than it used to be, I'm aware.
If I had room, I'd keep the Sport Trac til I received the Maverick, but I don't; I live in a townhouse and the parking lot is routinely visited by thieves, and I'd have to move it every 48 hrs, not possible w/my schedule. Hadn't even thought about a storage space, $100/mo sounds good. I guess the downside would be that every time I wanted to arrange for a test drive, I'd have to drive there, retrieve the vehicle, etc.

VIN is issued when scheduled. It is still possible to request some changes at that point, but as mentioned it requires extra approval on Ford corporate's side.
My understanding is that once the VIN is issued, the only thing you can change is the color.

My dealer won't return calls or emails. They just don't want to do anything. I'm pretty sure they don't want me to take delivery of the truck when it arrives. They can sell it for more than I paid through Costco.
