Sorry to hear about your "Baby Blue" truck. At least it protected you. With these posted events I am starting to get paranoid to drive at night. You never know when they decide to jump out of no where. Back roads, interstates, etc.

Back in the late 70's, My cousin Roy was coming down from Yreka CA. to Sacramento CA. in his 1969 Datsun truck and while coming through the mountainous area had a similar deer strike. He took the smaller highway as I-5 wasn't conducive for an early Datsun speed abilities and on impact the deer came through the windshield, both appeared to have died instantly. His truck left the road and was found a few days later after a search by the CHP aircraft. Small trucks are built so much better now and it is hard to believe that the hood support tore completely away allowing your hood to cover the windshield. Buy a lottery ticket and get the orange truck. I chose Area 51 as well but almost went for Cyber Orange for my 23 and did end up buying a Cyber Orange 23 Mach E, love that color as well.

My “Baby Blue”. Saved me yesterday. Doingn 75 on the interstate and big deer decided to jump out of the long grass. Hit dead center at 75. Not a scratch on me, a little burn from the airbag but can’t believe I am still alive. It was like Grand theft auto. Hit the deer while airborne direct center hit on grill and through the deer about 10 feet in the air and across 2 lanes of traffic.

I am crushed that I can’t replace my Area 51 with a new one.
Really want the orange but wife and daughters have forbid.

Wow, thank God you're ok after that. The Maverick is a highly rated safety vehicle.

Glad you are okay. Keep an eye on the air bag rash. Raising my three boys alone here is what I say.
Take your wife to the Ford dealer and leave the daughter at home - she will be moving out at some point to go to college.
Test drive the new Maverick and listen to see if your wife has a change of mind when she actually sees the color. Then bring up Geo8866's point - You only come this way once (at least I hope so )

Question: Was there any deer meat left since it appears the truck already cleaned it for you ?

My son hit 2 deer once a week apart.... one that sent him to the body shop and another on the way home after picking it up!

Whats the odds of that happening?

The good thing is that you were NOT crushed.
Had the deer jumped and missed the front end it could have come through the windshield.
You are fortunate.

I would bet that your Mav will be back on the road at some point.

Insurance totals cars when repairs go x% over value, but not because they can't be.
Front end damage and engine bay, but the structural components look to be intact.
There was a guy on the forum who bought a salvage with rear end damage.
If he acquired yours, he'd have a complete vehicle...

Another tale...
I was on my motorcycle starting to accelerate to merge with traffic doing 75 getting onto I-40 on the west side of Flagstaff from an on-ramp that went through a patch of forest.
Looked back to see traffic coming, looked up to see a dozen elk crossing the road in front of me as I rounded the curve.
I was hauling it down and hit my dual Fiamms when fortunately half the herd ran back to the forest and the other half continued across and onto the interstate, and I went between the split herd.

Chaos ensued as there was a lot of evasive action behind me seen in the mirrors.
About six full sized elk cows, a bull and a fawn crossed onto the road but fortunately only one vehicle hit an elk, and that was the fawn.

The bull I saw could have been half a ton - a REALLY BIG DADDY and the cows could have weighed in at 500.

For those that live in elk country, hitting one of those at interstate speed might not be around to tell the tale in about anything except a tank.

Moral - If you see a watch out for elk sign, there is good reason to be alert. .
