Last night, someone reversing bumped into my Maverick. Small SUV.

I watched it happen from a short distance, so was able to exchange info.

Taking a closer look at it today, it seems to be confined to the plastic cladding and purely cosmetic and quite minimal. They were going pretty slow.

Ford Maverick Got Bumped by Another Car - Scuffs and Nothing Under Plastic That's Damaged? 20211209_003531

Any recommendations to confirm it's simply the scuffs and nothing under the plastic that's damaged?

Tough to compare to the underside, as that's hidden behind the cubby plastic on the passenger side.

Parking sensor was close, but appears to be working fine.

ugg. That’s annoying. I once saw two women with crossovers that were new enough to have backup cameras back into each other in a Kohl’s parking lot.

More vehicles need the beeping backup sensors and not just cameras.

I would expect at that depth it is just air behind it. I'd get down on the ground and give it a firm push, it'll probably pop right back. If the scuffs clean back up it probably wouldn't even be worth pursuing further...that is up to you of course.

Thanks, y'all. I'm not too worried about the scuff. It's going to happen. Super happy it was just on the plastic.

I do have blind spot monitoring. I'll test that out this evening just to make sure it's in good shape.

I crawled under and looked at the bracket behind the plastic. It's really tough to say if it's out of whack at all cause I can't compare it to the other side.

Maybe a little space like it got pushed, but that could have easily been there and part of the design.

If you collected their insurance information, you could call their insurer and file a claim to have the truck evaluated by a body shop. It won't cost you anything, and it won't hurt your insurance rating since it was their fault. It'll be a PITA, but I'd do it if I was concerned.

This, it would be a real pain if a year or two down the road you discovered some damage that you did not see. Get it checked out. Cars and trucks nowadays even minimal damage can rack up a big bill.

I’d file a claim and see If you can take it for a drive in inspection. They’ll probably cut you a check which you can pocket or can choose to get it fixed.

WesM and TobyGadd are giving good advice.

2017 I was at a stoplight and an Uber driver didn’t stop in time. The damage to the rear plastic bumper cover looked minimal. The other driver had GEICO and their estimator came up with $700 to refinish and repair the bumper cover. When it went into the body shop, the technician saw additional damage once he put my car on the lift. Repair went from $700 to $1,340.

Please file a claim with the other driver’s company.

Filing a claim will show up on the vehicles history and lower the vehicles value. Ford has great parts, service and body shops. Why not pop in and ask a pro? There’s a master tech on this forum somewhere taking questions, it couldn’t hurt to ask. If you do need to repair through insurance and only after the repair is done, preferably by a Ford body shop, you should always make sure you submit a diminished value.

Good point. A lot don’t show up though, especially if there’s no police report.

I would get a price from a body shop to replace the textured cover, make sure they include a pre and post scan to ensure all systems are working once new cover is installed. I haven't check the repair procedures for replacing the rear bumper on a Maverick yet, depending on the blind spot placement a physical aim may be required if the bumper is removed or changed.

Have the person pay you out of pocket, if they don't want the insurance to take a hit. Or if they can't afford it let there insurance company inspect and provide an estimate. Either way you should be paid for the damage to your vehicle. Avoid going through your own insurance.

Also having an estimate will protect you if there is additional damage in the area once torn down.

When someone damages your vehicle they or the insurance company has to pay for the damages to make you whole. When you get it fixed or if you get it fixed is up to you. Diminished value is a whole different animal, good luck if in NY... Some states have calculations to come up with payouts for diminished value.

That type of impact and visible damage is most likely minor and the textured cover will get many more scuffs and gouges. If all is in working order get paid for the damages and hold on to the money for when the bumper really needs to be changed. If you really want it replaced now, get paid for the whole job and reimbursed for a rental for the down time.

The first bump hurts the most! Good luck!
