My husband passed away September, 2024. In July we had taken possession of a new 2024 poppy red Maverick hybrid. Until then, I had been driving a series of Priuses and the one I had then was showing wear. He was driving his old Tacoma, and had fallen in love with the Maverick. Now it is my only vehicle and I am an old urbanized woman (living in a rural area) and had very little truck driving experience. Since I am working with a home health agency part-time, truck is great for the back roads I use a good deal, but it isn't so flexible for parking and maneuvering. My poor pretty truck has an inaugural set of ugly dents caused by my parking deficiency. Also, it was easy to stay straight on the road with the Prius, much harder with the truck. (Definitely doesn't like me steering with my knees).

All that being said, if I try to be a better driver (and not so easily distracted) and hone my parking skills, it will all be ok. My question is (yes, I do have one!)--any women Maverick drivers out there, with or without issues?

This old man is an accomplished knee driver :XD
With my Mavericks lane centering on knee driving is much Funner :XD

I’m sorry for your loss, So sorry your old man had to die to get you out of a Prius.
:)
That was extremely noble of him.
A ‘Knight of the old code’ he must have been.

Be a fanatic about tire pressure,
Practice in a parking lot in tight spaces.
The much longer Maverick will become as easy to park and drive as the Prius.

Have a friend walk around the truck while your in reverse so you can learn the back up camera.
Learn the distance bars in the screen. They are great Back up and parking aids.

Theres a bunch a wimin folk in here.

Sorry for your loss Barbara.

It's not you, the Maverick seems like a particularly odd vehicle to park, for its size. Not sure what it is about it, just a combination of things. There have been other posts on this topic.

Lots harder than a Prius for sure. Don't sweat the dents, enjoy the drive.

Cheers.

First, please accept my condolences.

Next, for what it's worth, the Maverick is significantly more car-like to maneuver than a full size truck so you have that going for you. If you'll allow me, I'll "truck-splain" one of the biggest mistakes I see car folks make when driving a truck (or "trucklet" in this case). Unlike a car, a truck needs more room to turn and then straighten up. So in a parking lot, for example, try swinging a bit further out from the parking space, turning into it in a way that the vehicle has some forward movement before you're all the way in the spot. Car folks tend to turn hard from the lane into the spot but with a truck more "straight line" distance is needed, if that makes sense.

I'm sure some of the ladies here will chime in and give their thoughts as well.

I offer this in a well meaning manner and wish you all the best.

In my mind ... our cars are our transportation, nothing more. As a result, my wife drives the Maverick just as much as I do, despite being "my" car, and enjoys driving it. Heck, part of the reason I got it was because of her. We have 3 boys and they do lots of outdoor adventures. The Maverick was just about the perfect fit to replace my Prius v since they can go kayaking, be adventurous and go places the Prius v or Sienna cannot, plus adding new benefits of towing, all while getting fuel mileage that's only a small hit from the Prius v. In all, I/we hope the Maverick lasts a long time because we both enjoy it!

Well said,
Think about it, she was in a Prius with the edges, corners all much closer to her.
The Maverick, we sit deeper in it, lower with the corners farther away.
It took me some time to get used to getting close to things without bumping.
Pulling up to things when it was new was worse than my previous Bronco Sport, It was taller.
I learned to get within inches after getting out countless times, looking then moving closer,
then getting out and looking again. Many times.

After some effort I can pull up to a pole or car and comfortably stop within three or four Inches.

Barbara, your dealing with a 121 inch wheel base now.
The Prius over the years has been 100 inches to a 109 inch wheel based.
The Maverick needs more room and will react slower to your inputs, that's a good thing.
At home practice with rubber garbage cans. two should do it.
Overall length Prius, 181 inches, Maverick 200 inches. You'll learn it.

Sorry for your loss. Coming from a 2006 RWD Tundra with no back-up camera, the Maverick is a dream to park. I guess it's all about perspective. 🤷‍♂️
Yeah, and the Lariat with the FRONT camera that comes on when you're closing on an object is totally the bomb. Like a heated steering wheel I didn't know that I wanted it til I actually had it.

Female here ~ no issues but then I come from years of driving F150s…
Bought my Mav hybrid when I retired since a big gas guzzler was no longer needed.
Hang in and practice and I guarantee you’ll be maneuvering like a pro in no time! 😎
So sorry for your loss…

I am a female Maverick owner, and I have no problems driving it. I have had it for 1 year (16,000 miles), and it has no dents! I find it fun to drive! I'm sorry for your loss. Good luck!

Lady Mav driver here too 👋🏻. Had a pathfinder prior and the Mav is the same size, just less curves. I never thought I’d drive a truck but when I went in to buy a Bronco Sport or an Escape hybrid my salesman was like hmmmm have you thought about the Maverick? I was like what do I need a truck for?? My husband has had an F150 for years and years (which I drive occasionally and then feel very macho and large—I’m 5’2”). Lo and behold the car sold itself. It’s really a special thing to have our little trucklets (stole that, love that). Hang in there and the dents just add character (as long as it’s not the other guy or gal’s car getting them).
