We have a big trip tomorrow, so I went to check the oil and air filter. The AF cover took a little effort to get to open enough to get the filter out, but it eventually worked.

Now that I am putting the filter back (clean), the left side of the lid doesn't seem to want to go on evenly across the rear of the housing. It's as though something that is supposed to flex isn't flexing. The tension on the clips now seem uneven as well (left takes a lot of effort to clamp or remove, the right barely any effort. I checked repeatedly that the filter was seated properly in the lower box, and it appears to be. All of the tabs a the rear of the lid seem to be going into their slots.

Eventually, I just put it back together and tried a start to listen for any unusual air sounds. It sounds normal. I guess we'll see if a code comes up tomorrow.

Has anybody else had this experience with the air filter on the updated EB?

Now a days replacing an air filter always seems to be harder than it should be. In the good old days all you had to do was remove an easily accessible wing nut and remove the lid on the top of the carb. Now you have to maneuver your fingers in tight quarters to get to the clips to release them, and always at the risk of scraping your cuticles. But that's usually easier then getting the lid back in place perfectly and then getting the clips to close and seat properly. For me it usually takes more than one attempt to get it to seat and the clips have a lot of tension on them. If you are questioning whether you got it on right or not, chances are you didn't. I can't explain it but it's kind of one of those things that you just know. It just feels right. If you have time before you leave on your trip tomorrow I'd give it another go. Even if seated exactly right the clips will of course have tension, but they will clip closed with a little effort.

Do you have a 25? The box is a different design.

No, I have a 24, but most air filter boxes for most manufacturers are pretty similar. Usually two tabs on the back of the lid that you have to get in place first then make sure the lid swings down, hinge like, on those two tabs and seats in the lower channel, If not seated in that lower channel correctly you will struggle to get the clips to lock. Sometimes it takes a few tries.

I’ve been meaning to check the air filter on my 25 EB but haven’t yet.

You inspired me to do it and I’m going to follow the instructions below.

i too have a '24 ecoB. i bought a replacement online. a little finagling required. i believe the dimensions are perhaps a bit off so push down on the cover to compress the rubber, then clip.

Your 2024 is different than the 2025's with the Eco Boost.

Thanks for the mercy. I made it there and back 🙂

I watched that video. It mentions "zigzag lines" on the left side, but I don't know what it means.

However, i think there may be a small alignment hook on that left side that you may want to look at to be sure you don't damage when raising the lid.

This could have been solved with hinges.

Also, that vid misses a step the manual incudes: loosening the clamp on the rubber part of the intake and unclipping the sensor. It makes things much easier.

The gasket/seal around the filter can be grippy & spongy, a thin coat of Vaseline can help the cover "slide" into place a little easier. Something to try to see if it helps.
