Can’t call it a compact. All the guys who buy a pick up truck to compensate, well the Prius is a compact car.
Not gonna fly with the look at me I’m bad crowd.
The “official” category for the Ford Maverick & Hyundai Santa Cruz is “Compact Truck”.

But what do the “officials” know;)

The least expensive compact truck bounces back & forth between the two - so Ford played is safe by calling the Maverick the least expensive midsize in their advert. Smart.

The Maverick is crushing the Santa Cruz in sales.

I think the “New Light” that Ford is aiming for is attracting some midsized customers away from the Taco & Colorado - which are both crushing the Ranger.

I have heard many times from people about my Maverick: "it's so small". Never: "it's so midsize". Marketing will use whatever description they think will work best to sell the vehicle. If it is midsize than the ranger is large and the F150 is extra large. ✌

Well, the F-350 is Super Sized.
What does that make the F-250?
Mid-super-sized?

Not a truck by definition. It is a compact or SUV with a bed. A Pickup, yes. Would you call the Honda Ridgeline, El Camino, Ranchero, Subaru Brat trucks?
No, yes, yes, no...

If that's a mid-size truck, then what is the Ranger considered?

No…you do realize that the F-150, 250, AND 350 all share the same size cab configuration. 250 and 350 wheelbases of course are a bit longer with the long bed option. Fun fact.

a 1986 S10, regular cab, short bed. compact.
classic 90s Ranger, regular cab, short bed. compact.
same era Mazda pickup. compact.

Then the true OGs of Europe and Japan, that are border line comically small.

IMO the Maverick is big, Bigger than it needs to be.

Reduce size, reduce aero drag, reduce weight, increase energy/fuel efficiency as a side effect.

In my opinion, the Maverick is “just right”. if it was any smaller, it wouldn’t handle as good. Wouldn’t be as safe…. wouldn’t it be as comfortable and I wouldn’t love it as much. In fact, I might not even have it. Why would I need better fuel efficiency when I’m averaging 46 to 47 MPG EVERY single week that I’ve owned this truck?? 🥴🥴🥴
