Ever have a stud from the car in front of you hit the windshield? I had that happen in Ohio because the guy had studded tires on in May and 80 degrees out.
IIRC they were supposed to be off car by sometime in April Here in Ohio.

I’ve got leaves starting their annual drop.
Time to get the leaf blower out and tune it up.

Got a really great deal on a set of 17" steelies then got another great deal on some Dunlop Winter-Maxx SJ8's that, even with shipping, was less than what some people are selling on FB marketplace for lightly used snows...I will be dropping them off to my local Pep Boys for mount/balance in a week or two then I'll put 'em on at first snow....

I don't remember since I moved 25 yeas ago from Ohio. But I thought it was before April 1. Grew up east of Cincy, was driving in the winter of 77 and 78, drove to work in the blizzard of 78, never had studded tires. Snow tires yes. My dad told me studded tires were fine until the snow and ice melts then not so much so learn to drive without them. He took me out driving the first good snow storm and taught me how to drive in it.
I did not use studded snow tires until after I relished my wife needed them. I would just carry tire chains for when I needed more traction. Side fact, My Maverick is my first non-2WD vehicle.

Studded tire are street legal in Anchorage, Alaska from October 1st to April 30th. The local tire shops are packed during winter tire change over. I avoid this by having a 2nd set of rims & changing in my driveway.

I had Blizzaks on my Mark VIII and one of my Continentals... darn near as good as 4WD on a car.

I would put a set on this Maverick but the local salvage yards want too darn much for a used set of wheels. I'm not spending $1200 on tires and wheels when the truck spends late January and the whole month of Feb in Floriddia!

I just got my F350 dually on the road... that thing is awesome in snow but it has never been drivin in winter weather except 100' between my two driveways!

I got a set of nice steelies with good tires for $200 off Craigslist. Had to drive down to Indiana but it was worth it. Got a new set of Blizzaks and they're great. Yeah, don't need AWD.

Winter is slowly working it's way nearer here in upstate NY as well. I know I'll get 100 different answers but what does everyone like for all weather mats/floor liners. I normally go with Husky liners but I seen a customer car with 3W all weather mats. They seemed to have really good coverage for the dead pedal area. Any pics would be great!

I don't have Blizzaks because of the 45* temp limit on those tires. I love them but not when I spend four weeks in Florida

Did you break out the puffy coat?
Nah, the thermal underwear and electric blankets were enough.

Bt it's been annoying when my wife turns the swamp cooler too low and it pulls this place down to 70!

I'm going to Florida too. I'll just swap the wheels for the trip. Where in Florida?

We mooch off of my wifes brother in Sorrento east of Orlado. Nice big bedroom with a private bath and shower.

He has five acres with horses, goats, chickens etc. Nice heated pool in the lanai.

My wife has neen flying down early to spend a few weeks visiting then I drive down and we wind up spending about a month
out of the cold.

This past Feb we played tourist and spent two weeks driving back thru MS, AL and TN.

This nextFeb I want to hit Texas on our way home... do a little two stepping a the Broken Spoke in Austin, hit some guitar shops and jus goof off.
