I ordered a set of Lariat illuminated Sun Visors to swap out the non-lighted visors in my XLT. Apparently the XLT already has the wire harness coming through the headliner and it is in fact connected to my visor. I detached the connection but then started scratching my head. Why is there a wire going into my existing XLT visor when there are no lights, Homelink, or Garage Door Openers in the visor? What's the purpose? An electrical connection to nowhere? I'm tempted to tear into my existing visor to see where the connection ends, but getting the mirror out of the housing to see inside has proven to be kind of difficult. Has anyone else seen the inside of an XLT non illuminated sun visor?

I can only assume for fewer different part assemblies and just pop the mirror/light in when needed 🤷🏻‍♂️ just a pure guess.

Possibly but Lariat doesn’t have homelink so at most you will have a laminated vanity mirrors

Thank you. Yes, I am aware the Lariat Visors do not have Homelink. I've already installed a Homelink control button in my console. I only want the Illuminated Visor. My question is, why is there a wire and wire harness going into my current non-illuminated, non-Homelink XLT visors when there is nothing inside of them to make a connection to? I have purchased Illuminated Lariat visors and hope this existing harness will be plug and play with power going to it when I make the swap. Again, just wondering what this wire is if it doesn't power anything.

The visor bar itself is probably used for all trims, pre-built with wiring in place. Who ever is assembling them either sticks on standard or light version visor.

This is the most likely answer.

I don't know what's in the plug but 5 minutes with a test light or multimeter should give you all the info you need ...

Thank you. Seems to make sense but it is connected to the harness coming out of the headliner. I haven't checked to see if this harness is HOT, and I'm suspecting that it isn't, because it would need to be terminated and grounded somewhere. I saw on another thread that someone attempting to do the same swap as me encountered no power at this connection, and then another person replied, and showed a wiring schematic with the visors connected further down the line to the same circuit with the dome light and map lights. I suspect that schematic was for a Lariat, and that the connection further down stream on the XLT is not made. Even though there is a harness connection made at the visors. Seems like a waste of material, time, and labor to me if it does nothing.

Has anyone figured out where the sunvisor wire harness is disconnected from the courtesy power on the XLT? The harness is on the headliner and has the correct connectors for the Lariat visors. Where is it disconnected from power?

I ran into the same thing on my swap. The harness is there and connected to the non lighted visor. Why? For what? I thought it would be an easy swap but there is no power at the connector. I don’t have Forscan and didn’t want mess with it anyway, so I just spliced into the wires on the new visors and ran down the A pillars and tapped into the fuse box. Works fine.

I could not figure out anything about S904 beyond harness and headliner.
