On the turn to car theft:
Yeah, stealing the entire car is a rare thing. I'll bet 95% of the theft is just smashed windows and rummaging, 4% is someone leaving it unlocked and having it rummaged through, and 1% is theft of the whole car. BUT, if they have a key they can take it somewhere and strip it.

I just want to keep opportunistic drug addicts from opening my doors and rummaging around for "treasure".
I have two symbiotic goals:
-Keep opportunists out by locking the doors
-Not have that heavy thing bouncing around in a pocket while running or cycling, and an unlikely but extremely annoying event of losing it on the trail

In my past experience, a keypad is IDEAL. In my recent experience, being required to go to a disservice center to have it installed is a major PITA, and I am hesitant to try that ever again. I might check into the "mobile installation", since it seems like they couldn't set a window to arrive and do the "work" (5-10 minutes of programming) of more than a couple hours (not DAYS or WEEKS like a disservice center).

Guess you haven't been to Chicago where vehicles are being stolen all the time. Thieves like to drive them through storefronts for smash & grabs, especially jewery stores.

All their keyless-entry fobs have a physical key.
You realize what happens with dead battery and only keyless entry and no physical key?

Sorry, I guess I should have made my point a bit clearer.
The point I was trying to get across was a key start in vehicles nowadays is antiquated. They all should be push button start now as the technology came out over 15 years ago.

Sure, but you are going to get the price increase for it, because I doubt any company is only going to do keyless start - they are going to go for keyless entry too while you are getting some items installed.

And still requires the key in the fob to gain entry to the cab if a dead battery.
Gotta pop the hood or back seat to jump start a battery.

OK keep the key and store it inside the fob like Nissan did on my Altima. My Maverick has a spring loaded key which doesn't seem to be a good idea if/when that spring breaks. Why do I feel that will eventually happen ?

The keyless entry fob is not spring loaded. Probably like the Nissan. Manual shows the picture of it.

I wonder about our snap back breaking the fob plastic eventually. I attempt to catch it with finger like retracting tape measure. But usually not.
