I take long bike rides from a parking lot - as a longtime Ford owner, I left the fob in the truck, used Fordpass to lock up and rode.

I returned in 97F heat (normal where I live), and .... nope. "Unlock failed." Several phone reboots later, the unlock finally worked (mind, this is in a suburban area with lots of cell coverage).

If you poke around the 'net, you'll find that Mavericks will occasionally go into "deep sleep mode," and won't promptly respond to FordPass signals.

I'd urge any and everyone to not make it your sole means of access to your car.
Won't promptly - try won't at all.

Deep sleep mode means the modem has been turned off because of 3 things - reason is to conserve remaining battery power to start the truck.
Once it goes into deep sleep, a message in the app would have informed you that there are no remote functions available. There would have been no try or try again.

So if it finally worked for ya - it wasn't deep sleep.
Not all cell carriers have great coverage in matching areas - simple as being in a valley could mean your phone with T-Mobile was great, but the truck on AT&T was terrible.

I appreciate the knowledge.

However, I'd used that feature on FordPass for six years, approximately 3x/week with another Ford vehicle. Never once had that issue (and most of that was with the same phone, same provider, etc.).

Clearly I don't know why it didn't work at first, but needing two phone reboots was disconcerting, to say the least, when I'm all of the sudden stranded in the NM sun.

I"ve had predictably uneven performance in different places, but this was different in giving me the "failed" message on the app. Previously, when FP unlocking didn't work in remote areas (and New Mexico has some damn remote areas) - no message at all.

I rebooted the phone and got another failure message. Then I waited five minutes and tried again - and worked instantly.

My takeaway: fob's always going to come with me.

please share this hidden info on how to add a keypad yourself. I searched the internet using all the words and phrases I could think of, and both Ford and locksmith confirmed it cannot be done without special proprietary software.
This is in response to your earlier post where you were talking keys & fobs - not keypad.
That's the one I responded to what was possible to do on your own.
I see later you had another post about keypads.

Since some of the original links are non-existent now - later pages have new products.

But instructions there for keyed and keyless entry.

Loving this thread. Have done some diving today re: fob programming, keyless entry features, etc.

Honestly, I wish ALL Fords would have the keypad that's under the frame that so many already have. It's like one of the best features, ever. Going out to get something from the car in the driveay, and forget the fob? No problem. Need to go wade in to a pond, want to leave your fob in the truck? No problem.

When you look at the universe of crap that gets added on, those keypads really ought to be standard on every single vehicle, for all but the basic trims.

I have a great place if I could just remember were it is ?
I recall reading an old comic book from my father's childhood, the 40s or maybe the 50s, in which the villain planned the perfect crime.

He became a skilled hypnotist, and filmed himself, sticking it into the reel at the theater.

It commanded the audience to go to sleep, ran for a while so that he'd have time to steal all the wallets , and then woke them up with an instruction to remember nothing.

And being in the theater, he, too, got hypnotized, and on waking, had no idea why he was there!

Is everywhere else in the world except where I live full of car thieves?
Yeah, but some of us have dumb thieves.

I came out to the old F-150 that had been my father's, and the rear sliding window was open, with broken glass on the passenger side from the small back seat window.

In the front seat, the key guide was on the floor.

Apparently, they did to start it with a screwdriver, and just weren't up to the task!

$20 at the scrapyard for a new window, while my mechanic snapped the guide back in in a few seconds.

I don't think this works on 2024+ models, but I'll check.

I did it - works.
Many in that thread did it - works.
Dang, this is the first I've heard that it "works" for '24-'25 keys. I already had a dumb key made to hide under the body because of the disservice center keypad attempt fiasco, I'll have to see about having a smart key with fob made so I can try this forbidden knowledge programming myself. It would be a double bonus if it can also be used to program a keypad instead of a fob, since I have no need for a third smart key.

(in my language, "smart key" is one that will work in the ignition, "dumb key" is one that will manually unlock the doors/tailgate but not work in the ignition)

22-24 MY's is the correct range reference, 25MY had changes, and I make no claims to that one.

I had a smart key cut, and a fob replacement blade cut (to keep in wallet).
I programmed the smart key to the truck myself. I just wanted another option to start vehicle without a fob and much smaller in size. Has that slightly oversized bulk to it, but since no battery, just thicker to place the chip. And credit cards show just how small that chip can be.

So if I lose a fob, the truck still has a 4th slot available for replacement fob, and I have 2 admin keys to program truck for it.

Correct if I'm wrong, but I see the 3rd key as a necessity if you want to be able to reprogram another fob after you lose one. In other words, if you want to be independent, you need to always have at least 2 programmed fobs.

So, getting a 3rd fob is to back up the ability to program fobs. Yeah?

yes.

Add a key, and it can be either master or slave. You need two master's to add the fourth.

I forgot but was reminded looking at tire pressure screen under Info the other day.
One screen up is My Key - and it reports how many slots you have used.

Someone with the wireless keypad and pre-25MY should take a peek - I don't think it takes a slot.

I was going on an out-of-state trip and was trying to figure this out. Since I have the exterior keypad, I bought a Faraday pouch and put the spare fob under the back seat. I still try to take the fob with me, but there are times I forgot.

24XLT with wireless key pad shows 2 Admin Keys, 0 My Keys.
