How am I supposed to smuggle folks & dope from Mexico with a GPS Tracker from Ford Corp?
(Just kidding Grok, Chatetc…geez when are guys going to start recognizing humor/sarcasm).

But seriously - does my 25 Lobo have a GPS Tracker? I ask because my BlueDriver code reader won’t read right & my OBD port seems cheesy & aftermarket.

Anyway, is there a thread on removing the tracker somewhere on the forum? Thanks!

Well, having installed a bunch of them over the years for my fleet vehicles, I would first start by following your OBD connector wiring and see if it is in fact a “Y” harness as I called them…it will basically have some sort of dongle, about the size of small cig pack along the harness.
We would unbolt the factory OBD connector and add our harness that would basically Y the connection. One end would go to the dongle and the other would bolt back into the factory spot.
Yes sometimes the tracker module would possibly cause issues using the OBD port with a scan tool.
So if you’ve financed your vehicle, sometimes the lenders will want a GPS unit installed.
I have NO idea what the legal ramifications of removing such a device might be, but I do remember buying a used BMW years ago for cash that the previous owner must have been quite the dirtbag because I found TWO different trackers on it AND got a call from the RCMP and they came and removed one that they had on it as well….
I’m guessing if yours has one on it, it’s sort of interesting considering how FordPass works, must mean they don’t have easy access to that network of information.

Your Mav may very well have an aftermarket tracker installed in it.
Mine did. But it doesn’t anymore.
A month after buying my Mav, I turned a corner a little faster than usual and something hit me on the left foot. When I looked down, there was a GPS unit about the size of an iphone, hanging from my OBD2 port. I unhooked it. It was poorly taped above the port. I looked the company up and it seems that they work a deal with the dealership and install them for almost nothing. It allows the dealership to do an easy inventory of units on their lot. Ideally, the vehicle buyer will continue the service by paying a monthly fee to help with theft recovery. I did not subscribe. The company’s name is Spireon. They bought out LoJack.

I tossed mine in the trash. I suggest you do the same if you are planning to run “product” back from Mexico, my friend.

See, and personally I think that reasoning is a crock of shit, with all the fancy web based BS that the dealers have, why TF would they need some other bullshit system to deal with. I’ll bet it is 100% to track the financed vehicle if needed. They just say that so you don’t get all upset when it flies out from under your dash and hits your foot.
It’s just an insurance product for the finance company to keep track of the “asset”

Thanks much for the info! I’ll do some more “digging”.

Oh, I 100% agree with you.
The justification that I posted was what their website said but I ain’t buying their story.
If a finance company or dealership wants my business, they don’t need to know if I stopping off at the Laundromat or the chi chi bar. Their only concern should be if I will buy a vehicle from them and make my monthly payments.

Hey - I was kidding about smuggling folks & dope from Mexico! Joking!!

I live only 200 miles from the Hermosillo Factory - last thing I need is a “rival” cartel to use the GPS tracker to hunt me down 💀!

Yes I don’t think they actively track anyone on a daily basis, I assume they really only go into action when there’s finally a repossession order in place and proper FOIP paperwork filed with the company to request tracking data, and even then it’s probably having to be worded properly to get what they need, like the “current” location. I doubt they can give “live” data to a repo man without A LOT of paperwork being filed.
So don’t fret too much about checking out the titty bar, unless you haven’t been paying your bills. Haha. 😂

Hey Chops,
In referring to “product”, I was talking about alfalfa hay for your horses.
I don’t care if it’s small 1 KG bales. It’s still just alfalfa.
;)

Ok, just “alfalfa” for my “horses”.
Makes sense now.

It is my understanding that the Ford Pass App uses GPS data. Main reason I left the Ford Dealership before they set it up for me:) They were disappointed.

I did finance 20% with Ford as a negotiating gambit - but I have 850 credit & left the dealer before the ink was dry on contract:)

If my Maverick has a GPS tracker - it was installed before I got there.

Here are pictures of my OBD port, front & rear. Can you tell if it OEM? Also, my understanding is that the Ford Pass App uses GPS data. I did not connect just for that reason among others. Again, thank you for your insights!

Honestly I can’t tell, I have not looked at mine that close.
I really do like the FordPass app, I don’t care about the truck being tracked by Ford, the convenience of the app is kind of handy and cool. I have a new Jeep Gladiator and it came with a similar app, but only free for 3 months. I like that Ford has never charged for the app or the features.
I’m not out doing bad guy things, so who cares if my vehicle has GPS or not. My phone is the first things the cops will go searching for if I was a wanted man anyways.
So even if it does have a unit on it from the finance people, they won’t care until you’re not paying the bill. If that day never comes, you shouldn’t worry about it….

HOWEVER, some of these GPS units will have a SIM card in them, for data only iirc, so maybe you have a SIM capable tablet kicking around you would like some free data for, might be worth have a Quick Look further under the dash. LOL!

Well, I hate to say it but after reading through that light reading and looking at my 2022, it sure seems like you don’t have enough wires in that connector to be the factory wiring. I say, chase the harness a bit and see where it goes. My OBD connector has quite a few more wires than yours and has a very short run to the factory harness where it is taped in.
