I've noticed that a lot of people complaining about the lack of physical climate control knobs or buttons on the 2025 Maverick. They primarily come from those who don't own a 2025. Am I the only one that was pleasantly surprised at how simple the touch screen controls are? The fact that they are always visible seems to make all the difference. I like the fact that I don't have to scroll through a menu. What do you guys think concerning the touch screen only climate controls? Were you pleasantly surprised too?

Not a fan. Came here from a Tesla and I prefer quick access physical controls. Physical controls that I know where they are and what they do without much distraction are preferred. I almost bought a 24 because of this particular change I dislike it so much.

When I drive, I drive and concentrate on the road.
I want to be able to reach a control and change it without having to look at it.
So I am glad for the controls on my '24.
To be honest, I thought the same thing until I actually got this vehicle. Since they are the exact same place on the touch screen at the very bottom, I really don't have to look. It's become muscle memory like the knobs on my focus. But I do understand completely your preference. I think what made these not bad is that they are pretty much at eye level the same as the speedometer. Other touch controls I found that you had to take your eyes off the road. These don't seem to be that way to me anyway

Are Tesla controls more distracting than these?

In the Tesla everything is on the screen and at this point it is one of the best in the auto business. You don't have any controls external to the screen other than some things you can do with the tracker/scroll wheels on the steering wheel. Voice commands can be useful in a pinch. For example it does a decent job of letting you tell it to navigate to a location. If there are multiple matches you will select on screen from the list or be more precise in what you tell it. It can be useful at times. You can voice command telling it you want it warmer, cooler etc, but it just doesn't feel intuitive when you are used to just reaching over and adjusting a dial without much thinking about it. With the screen I always find myself having to look at where the control is to adjust it. It just seems cumbersome. In the Tesla or any EV for that matter navigation is critical if you are on any sort of longer trips or road trips for charging. Navigation is the Tesla's bread and butter on that screen. One last thing that should be noted is that the Tesla comes with a free period of connectivity. Once that expires you have to pay for it and that includes navigation.

Ford hasn't pulled everything into the display yet, but the functionality is similar. Ford's software looks clunky and less polished. We still have some controls in the Maverick and we still have access to Carplay/Android Auto which honestly I prefer over the walled garden approach, but possibly not as easy when using Carplay for navigation as in the Tesla and not as polished yet. Ford is just edging in Tesla's direction to cut costs everywhere and I think it is a bad move.

I don't care if they put all the other settings and things in the screen buried in apps and menus as long as it isn't something I need to get at on a regular basis. The common daily sorts of things such as climate and audio I prefer the physical controls. I am not opposed to screens for all the other non-used daily sorts of things. Most of those other things are set it and forget it most of the time.

Using voice command button on steering wheel is a great option no need to look at the smart screen or feel around for the knobs from the past🤷🏼‍♂️
I just don't like talking to my car. 😂. It's nice to be able to do so. But it's more of a novelty. I used to voice command "Bluetooth audio" on my 2012 focus only because it was a cumbersome to navigate the controls. I didn't even have a touch screen. I think it was SYNC 2. BUTin a car with an intuitive touch screen and climate controls as the Maverick, To be honest, voice command is more distracting than the touch screen. Maybe im just old 😂

Well people like what they like. I normally like physical controls. But I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't dislike the touch controls on the Maverick. I almost forget they're not physical knobs d buttons. But that's me.

Not a fan.
Drove a 2025 Bronco Sport loaner for a month while my 2022 Maverick was getting a new engine.

Touches not recognized, slider popping up, not to mention inadvertantly turning the heated seats on frequently because the touch control for it was directly under the Android Auto Multi screen button.

Thankfully, I haven't had any unrecognized touches. I don't have heated seats. So I don't have that concern. But I understand how that can be frustrating.

Wow! Your truck needed a new engine? That's unfortunate.
