My oldest son graduated from Cal (UC Berkeley), we loaded up the truck (4,500 miles on it) with my youngest son and rolled out 4am Friday morning. Light traffic, had a great breakfast off the 99 in Fresno area and arrived to the campus about 1pm. Cool to not have to get gas on that long blast avg 75-80 and about 38.5 mpg with a few long grades.

Return south on Memorial Day was more traffic but therefore more e-driving ha and got 39.4mpg and over 500 miles that tank.

I used the ACC and lane-keep most of the time — flipping power mode to ECON helps smooth out the acceleration/decel.

That really helped me relax a bit and just keep an eye on things. I did have 1 “situation” going down hill without ACC when traffic was STOPPING from 75-0 in front of me. I had the collision warning blast the dashboard but I was able to safely swerve into the carpool lane — wow the Maverick handled that like a Lotus ha — no understeer or snap oversteer — well done Ford. (I’ve driven fwd Mazdas and Chevys that would’ve oversteered and spun.)

I also had a Semi shoot a rock and chip my Lariat tech windshield — so I need to get that addressed before it spreads…. But overall an excellent drive, even a couple stretches at 80+, luggage under the tonneau and CarPlay keeping us entertained.

We stopped in beautiful Pismo Beach for a nice, still a quaint little beach town, even some hundred year old cottages still watching the waves!

edit — and yes we fit in a visit to Alcatraz what a trippy place — highly recommend if you have time.

I thought that might have been the dorm room at Berkley, I know they take education seriously out there - but bars on the doors - that's serious overkill!

Loverly. Looks like you got a winner. Hate seeing any windshield chipped.

Chipped windshields will happen. In past for me - Jeep 2x, my F250 1x, Escape 1x, my son had trailer, or stake body sid3 pin impeded in his windshield. Lucky didn’t come thru, struck center.
