that's a lot of work on the box, hopefully it turns out awesome.

btw, I am not trying to be 'that guy' but what's the reasoning for the dual pioneer shallow mount 10s? had them already, used them before with good results, etc?
I hope so too. I quit building boxes for other people years ago. I do it for myself mostly now. So if it sucks, I can redo it. And you're not being that guy. Valid question. I'm only reusing the pioneers because they and the amp were in my other box. I built the box for a newer sundown amp, and those sundown neo shallows. I don't have new amp and subs in my hands and I don't want to wait for them but I can read the specs of them online and go from there.

I havent figured out air space yet. I have a 12X12x12 cardboard box. That equals 1 cube. Fill card board box up with popcorn peanuts... And that equals 1 cube of peanuts. Dump said peanuts in speaker box till full. See how much fills speaker box and what is left in cardboard box. Go from there.. half box of peanuts used? .5 cubes of air space.. all the peanuts used? Full cube. It's not perfect but.. close enough.

Technically, I have 6+" of dept so I could do a full size sub annnnnd could port it. But maybe that'll be do over 2.

I'm glad you took that in the curious/interested spirit that was intended. I did not want to come off like "any sub that isn't a JL W7 is a waste of space", but at the same time it did look to me like you had a large enough enclosure to use some space-efficient traditional 10s, or at least 8s.

Last few years I didn't really have brand loyalty. I followed a lot but I usually bought whatever name brand last year model was was on clearance that suited my needs. Alpine, Kenwood, pioneer, RF, kicker old ppi, and old Boston stuff. Reviews help do help. Plenty of videos on YouTube. Was that way up till about 5 years ago till Sun Down caught my eye. For me anyway, I feel like it's a solid product that fits my needs and my budget.

Not so ugly any more. I decided to gloss black the top of the box itself. It added a lot more work. If I hate it.. I'll just blast over it with the raptor liner. But I am still doing Raptor Bed Liner from the top of the body line and down. Most of what I've been working on is how the wires will all be hidden. It's a lot to explain but I'll do a better job when it's further a long. Ready to be done and hear my tunes.

I didn't talk about it or explain it, but it I did counter sink and then body filler 22 1/4 inch neo magnets stacked 2 deep into the box and the beauty board. The idea is magnets hold the board in place on the box. It works really well and I'm happy with it. I might regret this concept with the top of box and beauty board cleared and painted. Dust and small pebbles could get between the 2 and scratch stuff up. Or, it might rattle. I could put small little felt feet in spots to prevent that.

I'll let this just sit for a few days and leave it alone. It takes a few days for it to really harden up. I've learned some hard lessons when being impatient and this is one of those where I know to just don't f w it. It needs to be sanded with some 1000/1500 and 2000 paper and then ill touch it up. It came out ok with 3 or 4 nats that crashed into it.

The beauty board still has some ways to go. I decided to paint both sides of the beauty board the same color as the truck so that needed some work.

The clear in the black had bubbles in it. I went to heavy with the stuff and as it off gassed it froze the bubbles in. Bummer. Smoothed it out and re cleared. Came out alright. Based the beauty board but ran out of paint. Have more on order. Will raptor line the the box itself in the next day or so.

Gloss black on top of box came out good. Happy with it. Moved into bed lining the box. Added some blue pearl but you probably won't see it. And if you could wouldn't matter. Was mostly as test for something else. Shot at 75 psi at the tank. I like that texture with that setting.

Yea. Everyone needs a hobby and this one of mine. Does not matter to me I can buy premade something something.. this part sounds really dumb. But to me it's a form of under appreciated art. And no matter what you or I build... That feeling of stepping back and being done and going. Wow...I did that.

To be fair.. sometimes it's whoa. I did that! And other times it's... Eeeeek I did that! Lol

I was able to cut and buff the clear this morning on the top of box. Came out nice. I finished out the internal wiring of the box and then was like uh...I think I can drop this in now... So I did.. the blue beauty board is not done... Waiting on clear. But over all. I'm happy w the install... 2 days left of work on beauty board. Stuff dusty.. will do a final clean when done.. One more surprise I haven't talked about I'll share once the beauty board is done done.

Bout 85% wired up here. Still need to tap into the factory sub and wire up my lc2i. Heading to my fiances house for dinner.

Really nice work on the box Kurt. A buddy of mine had two of those shallow mount 10" pioneers in his screw F-150 in a box under the back seat, sounded incredible.

Wow. Thank you. I can honestly say I learned everything via forums first followed by YouTube. I loved old school mini truck magazine, and those over the top custom sound setups. I remember wanting more than a box. Wanting what I saw in those magazines but thinking it was never for me.... Then I bought a saw.. that was 20 years ago. It's all just practice to me for the next one.. I'm not a pro. Just some dude trying to not cut my fingers off. I'm an IT guy by day and I need those fingers. I believe anyone can do everything and anything including building speaker boxes.

Its nice to rejoin the guy you hate at stop lights club again. I'm about 90% done with the install. All that's left is rebase and clear the blue beauty board and clean up any mess. I'll route the bass knob via the same channel as the rca cable.

Sound wise? The box is a lil big volume wise for the subs. I can hear them unloading with out clipping. It's a flutter sound that's almost like clipping but not as violent if that makes sense. Daily driving, I listen around 15 or 16. I can push it to 17 it 18 depending on the tune. The B&O sound setup is actually not that bad driving the rest of the truck. It gets as loud as I want and see no need to replace the remaining stock stuff for awhile.

Been a DJ for a lil over 25 years, but I only play one kind of music... And it's the only music that matters. DnB. ;)

Alright so Initial shake down went ok. The left sub leaked air very badly around the gasket. After a few tries I dusted baby powder around the edge of the speaker and pressed down. Found the spot first time. For whatever reason, had no bass this morning. Swapped RCA to lc2i and it seems cleared up.

2nd my magnet beauty board idea? Looks Amazing. Vibrates. Doh. I should have seen that coming. And finally? So yea.. the box itself vibrates in the tub. For both problems 2 and 3 I have self stick felt pads I place around things.

This truck sucks for factory sound deading from the compared to my 2014 Denali. Granted that was more a luxury ride and they put more effort there for that. Over all this truck is loud. You hear everything. I've been a fan of second skin audio products for awhile so I in the fall I'll do some of that. Once I line the doors, it'll get that nice... Thud.. when it closes that I'm looking for.

The rear view mirror is floppy and doesn't stay seated where I want it. Not sure what to do there.

Updated beauty board work this weekend. Hope to be done done done Sunday.

Finally got the trim board painted and clear coated. Messed up a few times and had to fix. I'm going to add some led accents later but it's getting hot here in Texas. I have health issues and the heat makes it very hard to work for me. Glad I got it done before heat really kicked in. Just few build images of painting and clearing both sides of the trim board. Last few images in this build.

Next will be lower it on coil overs at some point. Got a buddy who can help.
