I started shopping for a hybrid XLT AWD, then I learned about the LOBO. I have owned many small sporty cars (GTI, Mini Cooper S, Miata, etc) and this Lobo looks like a hoot! I do realize I would give up some towing capacity, and a whole lot of MPG, but I would gain some style, and a lot of fun I think. Anyone here with a similar history? How is the actual highway MPG working out? Can I still drive it on a dirt/gravel road or in a smooth field without worry? Anyone planning to autocross?

I have a lowered '22 that I'll be autocrossing soon. If I had to buy another Maverick today, it would definitely be a Lobo. I have owned numerous sporty vehicles and used to autocross a lot - but I stopped about 20 years ago in favor of sportbikes and mountainbikes. the amount of seat time in autocross vs the amount of time and money invested is not favorable... so I'll do it a few times- but no, I'm not interested in doing every regional event and going to nationals.

Regarding the towing/hauling capacity, you can get helper air springs and I've considered adding a set. https://realtruck.com/p/air-lift-1000-air-bag-kits/v/ford/maverick/2022/

Yes you can definitely drive a stock Lobo on your average gravel road. Should you drive it on forest roads in the Rockies? Maybe, maybe not - it depends on the road and current conditions. In fact, I bet the stock Lobo and Tremor would both excel at Rallycross, if you have that locally. (Not many regions do; it's very hard to find appropriate land to use.)

If you haven't seen this, you should check it out. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/ford-maverick-lobo-a-pickup-d/272311/page1/

The only reason not to get a Lobo is if you're definitely towing more than 2000 pounds regularly. If I had a trailer slightly over 2k, personally, I would get the helper air springs and send it.

Thank you! Sharp truck, love the wheels. I will check out that link. I have an enclosed trailer that I rarely tow and a utility one that I sometimes do. I dont think I need over 2k regularly.

Yea, I would like the blue, but that is about it for me. I like the non-standard colors.

Color selection on the Lobo is disappointing... It's a Maverick that screams for Hot Pepper Red (old color), Azure Grey, Eruption Green or Cyber Orange (old color)
I agree, and I think it likely has to do with Ford making batches of painted bumpers rather than one-offs per truck. I don't know either way, but to me that's the most likely reason as to why they limit the Lobo to 5 colors.

Space White would be pretty awesome. Or Cactus Grey, lol. But if I bought one today, I could be happy enough with Oxford White, Carbonized Grey or Shadow Black. (I'd regret the black I'm sure, swore off black vehicles in dusty Kansas years ago.)

I went from a 2015 Civi SI to the Lobo and I couldn’t be happier! I don’t really plan to tow but the sporty feel is still there in a more refined package. Went from orange on the civic to white on the Lobo which honestly wasn’t as bad of a transition as I was thinking.

The 702A Lobo can tow up to 4000 pounds :) I think autocross would be fun, it's very nimble and corners well. Can't wait to try out Lobo Mode on an actual track :) I would buy it again, it's a lot of fun and still very practical, we just got back from home depot with two doors 😉

Where did you hear that it can tow 4k? My 702A lobo has the trailer controls but I haven't seen anywhere that it could!

he is mistaken. the lobo 702A has protrailer backup assist and trailer view on the 360 cameras, but it is only rated to tow 2000 pounds just like the lobo 402A.

That thread leads me to think the Lobo cannot race in stock class autocross? Thats probably ok, I would just enjoy driving it around.

I checked when the 2025 rules were first published and was bummed to see the Lobo did not receive a stock classification. https://www.scca.com/pages/solo-cars-and-rules

I am not sure if anyone has requested a classification for it.

I think it was due to the height of the vehicle? Like it would need to be lowered 4"? Not sure, no expert on that stuff.

this is from section 3.1 in the solo2 / autocross rules as of March 2025.

anyone with a stock lobo can measure this. I'll measure my lowered '22, I hope it passes, lol.

Unless you willing to take whatever you might find on a dealers lot, go ahead and place the order now and spend the next few months deciding if you want it or not. That would also lock in the Employee price.
