so after you received the key from ebay where did you go to get the key "cut" to match your only maverick key? What was that charge?
How did you know the Edge key would serve as a maverick key? Thank you for any information

i didn’t bother having the metal emergency key cut, I just had it programmed. Just checked the metal key is the same and I also discovered the fob doesn’t work anymore. It’s been laying in a locked file cabinet for last year so I’m hoping it’s just needs a new battery. Took battery out tested with another 3V battery that didn’t fit, put old battery back in after wiping contacts off it works. Remote started mav with the remote and then shut of engine and locked doors. I plan on picking up new battery though. CR2450

update: If you ever have to replace battery put coin in longer slot and twist to remove access panel to battery. I didn’t check it out that well and used the smaller slot with a screwdriver and took the two halves apart. It was a pain trying to put two halves together with battery in the fob once I got it together I realized It had the access panel. Duh!

When you install battery one day, it would be interesting to know if the fob would work after cutting the shaft to match existing one.

I would get one then if you got success. You only paid $50. for the program. that is a fine deal

Shafts are identical. I put them end to end and side by side exactly same, so if it was cut correctly it would work. What I wish was there was a way to have one key to operate both of my fords. A long time ago when ford had the two sided keys I had one side cut for my truck and one side cut for wife’s car. Just put a dimple on side of key for truck side.

what’s EDC? Is it a variant of OCD? I tried looking it up and could only find “Every Day Carry” referring to handgun concealed carry.

Thanks for response. Hope not annoying you with questions.
When you bought the key from ebay the shaft couldn't be identical to your 1 existing key.
So Where did you get the shaft of the key cut to match your only key you got with the maverick?

Did you think you was taking a chance to buy a ford escape and have it match the maverick?
I seen in walmart they have a machine that cuts the shafts.

Is the key still in your drawer or did you try it with the maverick after putting battery in it?

The metal key is identical in shape and size. I didn’t have it cut as it was extra and I probably want ever need the key anyway. Since it was only $25 I looked at pictures of it and its appearance was was exactly like the original so I gamble that it would work. My dealer had already offered to program for $50 so I gambled $75 that it would work and it did. No it’s a bit chilly here so haven’t ventured out to get new battery. I did test it with another 3V battery that won’t fit in case(too small to make contact unless you hold it in place a CR2025) and in worked the battery is a CR2450 thicker and larger in diameter than the CR2025

Sooooo, why not just use the keypad on the door?? No need to remove the fob and carry with, and or lose.
And don't even bother with someone can steal your vehicle. If they break in, they are going to steal it anyway, lol.

That's what I did with my 2008, F-150 Limited for several years, but it didn't have intelligent access, which is much quicker than using the keypad, especially to unlock all the doors so I can set my tool bag in the back seat, just touch the door handle vs putting in the 5 digit code then pressing 3/4 to unlock the other doors.

Here is the result of my project to create a minimalist key fob. I measured the original at 25/32". That's roughly 3/4". My minimalist fob is about less than half that size at 25/64". All the buttons are functional. To make it, for my 2024 Lariat with remote and push button start:
  1. I ordered this fob.
  2. I disassembled the fob.
  3. I coated both sides with J-B Kwik.
  4. On the side of the battery,
    1. I thinly wrapped a 2032 (smaller than the original) battery in stretch wrap and applied the J-B Kwik as shown.
    2. After the epoxy hardened, I removed the battery, took off the plastic wrap, then reinserted the battery.
    3. After that, I used a Dremel tool grind down the spring steel holding in the battery. I ground it down to be even with the top of the battery. With the slight overlap of J-B Kwik over the battery and the spring steel, the battery is held quite securely.
  5. On the side with the buttons, I applied the J-B Kwik right over the buttons. As the epoxy settled, it left small raised areas where the buttons were located.
  6. After the epoxy hardened, I took a small file and filed off the J-B Kwick from over the buttons.
  7. I used some white nail polish to make the position of the buttons more easily seen.
The fob will go into a small coin purse with my house and mailbox keys, and some bills. It's slightly wider, but not as thick as the original Ford fob. But it is certainly more flexible and comfortable to have in my pocket. But with the buttons flush with the J-B Kwik, and the circuit board reinforced, I can stick it in my pocket by itself without any issues or risk of it breaking.

There are numerous variations one could make. Hopefully, this will inspire someone to do your own project.

Update:
After 15 months of daily use, the foam I had surrounding the buttons had mashed down enough that the buttons were regularly getting pressed in my pocket. I ordered some clear, marine heat shrink with an inner glue layer and replaced the foam with balsa wood, the battery showed 3.2v so I left it alone. The glue in the heat shrink did a good job sealing the ends, so an overall improvement over the original setup.
