Hi all, just wanted to share an issue that I spent hours on trying to address and how I finally resolved it.
FordPass app was not syncing - showing wrong FuelLevel (57% after I filled up to full tank), could not lock/unlock, could not remotely start the vehicle - the controls would just keep spinning, and nothing was happening.
Starting my car with a physical remote control was just fine, so it wasn't a deep sleep issue or anything.

What I had tried (and none of these worked):
  1. Made sure I had a good Wi-Fi signal and satellite reception
  2. Cleared cache in my app
  3. Deleted all data in my app and re-logged in
  4. Uninstalled/reinstalled my app
  5. Had my wife install the app on her phone and try herself
  6. Made sure my vehicle settings were all correct (I knew I hadn't changed them lately, but just in case...)
What I was going to do next - debating between the two:
  • Call Ford Support the next day, OR
  • Schedule a service appointment.
What I did to remedy the issue:
  • I almost gave up figuring it out myself, but then decided to see if "Location" worked, showing my home address, since the vehicle was in my garage. Not very surprisingly, it wasn't - showing my friends' address, we visited yesterday. So I touched the "Refresh" icon (top-right corner of the screen), and in a few seconds, it updated to my current location. After that, the fuel level correctly updated to "100%", and all the controls started working again - I was able to lock, unlock, and remotely start my truck.
My theory on why this issue occurred and why the "fix" worked (feel free to correct if you disagree). Might be an oversimplification, but here it goes:
  • Remote functions of the app must be using vehicle location to find the nearest satellite tower/transmitter.
  • Once the location metadata is "stuck", the tower it was trying to use was out of the range for the actual location.
  • Once I refreshed the location, it started using the "correct" tower, and everything started working again.
Let me know what you think. And hopefully if you have this issue yourself one day, you'll remember what to do.
Have a good day!

Thank You! Mine has been stuck once thus far, as well..

I will try this if it happens again in the future.

Great write up on your troubleshooting and describing your hypothesis! :)

If sharing my experience helps one person, then writing this up was not a waste of time.

When mine goes offline, refreshing location does nothing. When FordPass's back end is broken, it's well and truly broken.
So what do you do to fix it?

I've had this happen a handful of times. The app doesn't update for a little over 24 hours. Attempting to refresh the location does not work to fix the issue for me. It usually fixes itself after the 24 hour mark. The issue has to be on Ford's end.

Unfortunately this didn't work for me and it's driving me nuts! Just picked up my Lariat about 2 weeks ago and started noticing this happening recently.

A few folks have mentioned pull fuse 11 for the telematics module. This does nothing. There's no problem with the truck; it's a communications issue with Ford's network.

You just have to wait it out.

You can turn off the location feature in the truck, and the remote ability still works.

Location not a basis as theorized.

It would also be a waste of data space to load data for cell site locations, not the way it's done.
The truck modem is doing exactly what your phone does when it connects, and GPS can be disabled.

Strongest tower cell signal tried first to see if open channels, if none open then next strongest, ect.
If no channels a phone would report "there are no open circuits available" or similar - think major crowded events.
If no signal seen then nothing remote happening.

Interesting theory - but many of the 25MY threads on this issue point out that troubleshooting step, and even Ford's official steps that seem to work for a day abouts.
Then back to the issue.

Yep - Ford's side, or whatever they told ATT to setup the connections as.
ETA - wonder if they used the same old modems?

All I am saying is after countless hours of doing everything possible, refreshing the location immediately brought the spp back to life. Coincidence? Very possible. I will try that next time I have this issue. If it works again, I will be inclined to correlate the two - as a software architect, I can tell you that stranger bugs have happened. If it doesn't, then that was indeed a coincidence.

When you touched refresh - it had to go back to the Ford servers which talk to truck and get fresh data - of everything last reported.
It's merely the fact the only place where you can kick off a refresh - is on the location.
The app is assuming the other data would not have changed since last reported when truck parked - so of course no option to refresh that data.

So of course everything would be updated then, well - if there was fresh data to be had.

If after the prior data reporting when you stopped at friend's house, there were no other updates - that's when either your truck failed to upload new data after each new start/stop, or Ford's servers failed to update the info the app talks to for it.

You could also get fresh data by doing an unlock/lock sequence.
Same thing is happening - request Ford server to talk to truck. If truck is on the ATT network anyway.
Well, and battery is good enough.
Thank your 25MY!

You'll eventually experience again what the you and others are getting as an error, not just stale data.

I have same issue with connection. Refreshing location has zero effect. Ford remains useless in providing any reasonable explanation or even status on what they are doing to investigate the issue. Extremely frustrating

Tired that multiple times - didn't work. The progress indicator was spinning endlessly, nothing was happening.

Just noticed - on the Location screen.
It reports the time since that last Location was updated.

Currently - mine says 5 hrs ago.

Pressing refresh didn't actually go and update it, I'm guessing the app is assuming the Ford servers last data upload was as good as it gets. No need actually get more from truck.

So mine still reports 5 hrs ago on location refresh.
Which indeed is when I parked the truck and last data was sent up.

You might notice that extra bit of info on further tests, or when you see it stuck on old data.

Exactly. Mine updated two days ago… and hitting refresh just spins for two minutes before failing. Same as a remote engine start.
