I like to keep un-sprung weight down as much as possible. Has anyone found another AT that compares to the Destination AT2 from a weight perspective?
The BFG trail terrain is fairly light if you stick with a certain version. According to tire size.com the 235/65R17 comes in around 29 pounds which isn’t too bad for an AT with a semi-aggressive sidewall. But if you go XL it bumps up to 36 lbs.

It was the lowest in class of a proper AT2 and not some "trail" tire that provides nothing but disappointing results no matter the brand in almost all scenarios where you'd need a more aggressive tread

"Trail" terrains are purely for looks, and the only real AT tires that compare on price, weight, and rolling resistance is the Continental TerrainContact and the Firestone Destination AT2, which was the best available, lightest, lowest rolling resistance while maintaining a tread pattern that can actually grip and be comfortable going 80km/hr+ on gravel

At 235/65r17 the Destination AT2s are only 4 lbs heavier than OEM 225 continental

Just an update on MPG. I've now put about 1500 miles on this tire/level setup. City MPG (if I'm not lead-footing it) seems to be coming in around 20. Maybe a little more if I try coasting more frequently.

Highway MPG is coming in more around 25. A few factors to consider though: I live in Michigan and this February has been fairly cold, we're running winter blend still, and I idle the truck for about 5 minutes before I leave for work in the morning. I'm curious to see what the MPG numbers will look like in a couple of months as we warm up and switch back to summer blend.

Have been running 34 PSI cold, tires get up to around 37-38 PSI after driving around for a bit. My plan is to rotate them in another 500 miles, then stick to 3000 mile intervals like I was before on the Scorpion ATRs.

That's not horrible all things considered!

Just keep in mind there IS a give and take with everything

Those ATRs would struggle in the conditions they are "made for" whereas the Firestones are very unlikely to let you down, or spin out on something they are "made for" and that comes with a cost

For mine on the hybrid, it was about 7% difference in the 12k kms I had before putting winter tires on

Oh yeah, no complaints on the mileage!

Also, I did have one of those moments actually in the last couple of weeks where if I still had the ATRs, there's no way I would've got out of a snowy driveway, up an incline.

Yessir, given the weight, rolling resistance, hydroplaning resistance, siping, gravel handling, stone / rock grip, etc., I was incredibly happy with mine!

They were good in the snow for the first couple weeks before i put the winters on, certainly better than any other non-winter tire i have been caught in the snow with!
