I am building water storage for my hobby farm. Here is Goose (Goose the Maverick, my idea of a joke) hauling two IBCs 75 miles home to my place. I noticed that my MPG dropped from 44 to 35 on the trip back. The little rascal is more aerodynamic than I thought, and the "totes" sure disrupted the airflow. The good news is that I paid $2.49 for gas in Walhalla, SC.

I also hauled 2,025 pounds of gravel, but neglected to take a picture.

Before we got our Maverick, we were able to get 4- 55 gallon barrels into the back of our Edge (with the back seats folded forwarded) and close the hatch.
I built a 13 barrel collection system to catch rain from the roof of our largest outbuilding. There is a debris catch tube (First Flush by Rain Harvesting) that really helps keep crap out of the barrels and I was fortunate to find black barrels and pipes to inhibit light and the growth of algae.

Your project looks like fun.

OP, those look like 270 gallon totes. Full of water those will weight about 2,300 lbs each. That would be more than 4 tons on your Maveric. Empty, they are a bit over 100 lbs each. Be careful.

I use hydrogen peroxide in Small % to nail the life of unseen algae. Also the blue barrels I buy are one time use to ship hydrogen peroxide so they should be visually opaque. (It's quite strong around 37-42% I think not like the drug store bottled stuff).

I have 6 of those totes, myself. We live off grid, eventually I snagged a 1000 gallon tank. Easier to fill and pull from. and can get in it to clean it too. If y'all have cleaning issues just get a broom that you can unscrew the head of, put the head in the tank and screw it back on. Fabricating a bent metal broom stick would be nice too. The metal on those will last about 10 years fyi.

I call my Mav "Lil Britches" just because it's littler than the bigger cousins. But it does pretty much the same thing the big ones are doing while sipping less gas along the way.

I have tanks on drawing board. Debating on a hot tank and a cold tank for solar reversible cycle thermal batteries (20K gal?). Have 5200 sq ft roof footprint 34" annual rain. My current totes (painted black) I clean with pressure washer. The blue barrels are on hold but were intended for thermal batteries inside future greenhouse.

Nice. Our roofs are under under 1000sqft. But our average annual rainfall is between 40 and 100 inches. So with expansions to our current size we haven't had to haul water in 4 years.
