This is EXACTLY what I do too. The reason why it’s best to have Trip 1 for lifetime without reset is that your MyView screen for Fuel Efficiency pulls the data from Trip 1.
This for sure applies to the
2022-2024 XL & XLT, but might apply to all.

There is a FINITE amount of MPG data stored.

The memory is FIFO - First In / First Out.
This means the oldest data is eventually overwritten. It is overwritten without notice or fanfare.

The data held is 5000 miles. For most, this is about 10 tankfuls of gasoline. It will always be the most recent 5000 miles. So if you never reset, and drive more than 10,000 miles per year, you'll still witness seasonal changes.

So while it is a "long term moving average" it is only "lifetime" while your truck is young.... and under 5000 miles total.

😎

PS this is not in the manual, but I did the math after 10,000 miles with precise record keeping.

interesting, that's good to know. I'm not sure what my Prius did as I didn't keep detailed records like you did.

Did my first more significant drive yesterday. About 120 miles at mostly 60, sometimes 70, on constant rolling hills, low 30s put. Averaged about 35 mpg. Then did a 16 mile city conditions and averaged about 45 mpg. Quite pleased with those results compared to the estimates and my previous Prius V (the wagon model, not the sedan).

I will say this…

If you’re driving against a strong wind, the mpg takes a big hit almost equivalent to cold freezing weather. Even more than the AC lowers it. Definitely cold weather and strong wind do the most havoc on mpg. This is my observation so far.

My fuel economy was consistently 40-42 mpg per tankful. Until the weather changed.... One recent period of sub-20 ° temps yielded a tankful at 33 mpg. I had no idea how much cooler temps would reduce my mpg. 2024 Hybrid.

Gas cars get an equally bad drop in winter.

The sales staff should tell first time hybrid owners that real cold weather and hybrids don’t play well together and that there is an operator learning curve.
But they’d get fired if they did that.
If I was Ford I’d have some kind of pod cast or YouTube on the subject.
There is no learning curve. Just drive.

OP, have you experienced driving at high speeds against a 20+ mph headwind? In my experience this lowers mpg even more than sub-freezing temps. For example, on a tollway driving at 75 mph with a wind at my back pushing me forward, I was getting 38 mpg. On the way back the same day, going against the strong headwind, it dropped down to 26 mpg. Crazy.

Made a trip with my 24 hybrid towing a car dolly 300 miles day/night in 50 degree weather. Stopped at a motel. Traffic good most of the way. Rain and heavy traffic around Atlanta. Did not stop for gas. Purchased a new truck (chevy). I averaged 35 miles per gallon 70 percent interstate rest hiway . Truck towed my Maverick Home using the dolly. Take away from almost a year of owner. Absolutely like this truck! my mileage at home county/town 46 mpg. The idea that I can go 1 to 10 miles if there is a engine failure pleases me greatly. Would like to have had this truck in my commuting days

Made my first long road trip since getting my little 2025 AWD hybrid and I am so impressed with the results. The total trip was just over 300 miles and when I got home the gas gauge said half a tank. The MPG reading stated 40.3 and now the combined average for the truck is 37.7. The speed limit on the highway was 75 but I set the cruise at 69 indicated which is 70 according to WAZE. I was very curious about how it would do on the highway since we are planning a 3000 mile plus trip in a few months and was very pleasantly surprised indeed with the results. Didn't get a picture to show but on one local trip at home I did see the magic 99.9 for one short 1.9 mile trip from one store to the next. I love this little truck!

Change your oil with FULL synthetic oil before 2000 miles. This will flush out any metal shavings that may be left in the engine after machining and keep your crank and con-rod bearings smooth 😎. We have 9500 miles on ours so far. One easy recall and running great. Enjoy the ride.

I made my first trip to and from work yesterday and was pleased with the MPG. Hoping as it warms up and breaks in this will improve a little but still not bad at all.

They both lower it. The thing about the wind is, you're pushing a vehicle down the highway that mor or less has the aerodynamics of refrigerator.

Much better mileage with the heater off and moving at speeds of 55 mph or below.

Still, I'm averaging 40mpg in 21k miles of driving. And other than software updates, absolutely no problems requiring a dealer visit, yet. Very pleased with the Hybrid Maverick in terms of fuel economy and reliability.

Driving over 70mph, the hybrid is not going to get you great mileage. Drive under 60, and see the difference.
Yeah, my first Mav was a Hybrid, but my foot seems to be a bit heavy so I wasn't getting the full benefit. Decided to go EB this time, and it suits me. Hybrid definitely serves its purpose for those that drive it the "right way".

I know everyone here is talking about the hybrid, but I want to put in a good word for the ecoboost engine. My truck is averaging between 29 and 30 mpg. That is the best of any gas engine truck I have ever owned and I have owned over 10 trucks in my lifetime. The last truck I had was a 2010 Ford Ranger and it averaged 21.6 mpg in mixed driving. I think the hybrid and ecoboost are both great trucks.
