I just had an oil change done 2 days ago. Today, I raised the hood to check on an odd smell and saw coolant residue all over the area. Like it sprayed out from under the cap. I checked the cap - it was tight and the fluid is at max level.

Anyone else experience this issue ?

Perhaps it was thought to be topped off at the oil change, but was really overfilled and just expanded until it overflowed when you drove it.

I think this is a perfectly reasonable answer. The oil change place thought they were helping by topping it off, but it was not low.

I would clean the residue, check for further issues and expect to find none.

Then I'd probably switch to a Ford dealership or QuickLane for future changes.

I'd say this is pretty likely since it still shows overfilled. The Max line is at the seam, highlighted in red below. My advice would be to drain out some of the coolant to lower it back down to the Max line, clean it up well and check it again after some miles to see if it's actually leaking. Maybe also inform the moron that overfilled it of how these things work.

interesting!! thx for the input. My Ford dealership is the only place I’ve taken it for service.

I’ve only had this serviced at my local Ford dealership. I did bring it to their attention and they’ve noted it in my files. I did wash it down - it left some nasty surface etching on the :( brackets.

In my 22 a long time ago when it was fairly new and I did not live too far from dealer, I saw that my fluid was about 1/3 of way between nothing and the min line. Drive to Dealer and raised hood to show service rep and WALLA the level was 2/3 of the way from min to max lines. They did do a pressure check and truck passed.

Wow! Interesting 🤔. And you’ve had no issues since that time ?

No issues! Where was the stuff hiding? I have no clue. Must be a big air bubble somewhere now??? For 30k miles??? There can be about 1/2" difference in height between min and max from one time to next which could be based on temp. I just look and think nothing of it as long as fluid ist above the min line when it cold. No way would I consider filling it over half way between min and max lines.
