Hey all,

Was just curious if disconnecting the negative on the regular battery underneath the rear passenger seat would have the same effect as disconnecting the battery on an all gas car. Is the hybrid battery supppying any power to electronic systems in the vehicle? Dumb question but really don’t know!

Also, how long should I leave the battery disconnected to ensure a full reset before hooking back up?

The 12v battery runs all your electronic modules and systems. I think I read to disconnect it for 5 minutes to reset everything. The HV mainly drives the wheels and charges the 12v battery

While you are waiting why not charge the battery.

Actually, the 12v battery runs all your electronic modules and systems only when the vehicle is off. Vehicle on, all 12v systems are powered by the DCDC system, which also is supposed to charge the 12v battery, of which it is doing a poor job…….Bill P

keep note of the owners manual. There is a note in there that disconnecting the 12V too soon can have impact on some power hold (memory is little fuzzy) feature and can result in voiding your warranty.

...They do not tell you when you can disconnect.
Applies for all 22+ mavericks including 25's.

Good point - the whole section on changing the battery is as poorly written as the algorithm for the charging strategy!
Hey - at least it doesn't say wait until the clicking stops...

To disconnect or remove the battery, do the following:
  1. Apply the parking brake and switch the ignition off.
  2. Switch all electrical equipment off, for example lights and radio.
  3. Wait a minimum of two minutes before disconnecting the battery.
Note: The engine management system has a power hold function and remains powered for a period of time after you switch the ignition off. This is to allow the system to store diagnostic and adaptive tables. Disconnecting the battery without waiting can cause damage not covered by the vehicle warranty.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable terminal.
  2. Disconnect the positive battery cable terminal.
  3. Remove the battery securing clamp.
  4. Remove the battery.
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Note: Before reconnecting the battery, make sure the ignition remains switched off.

That 2 minute thing should be a neon sticker on the battery.

In reality it will take me (and most people) more than 2 minutes to get out of the truck, move the seats, open the case, get out tool(s) and loosen the battery cables.

But still, neon colored sticker would be nice. Just in case.

If it makes you feel any better, the requirement for new diesels using DEF it is like 10 minutes. The DEF needs to drain some lines to prevent this 97% water product from freezing while parked.
